Dear Folks,

Given the shaking of spears and rattling of bayonets, all round the world, I decided to re-read this wonderful book.... Nuclear War: A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen.

I suggest that you read this book, too, if you have not yet read it.

This book is not science fiction.

And, furthermore, this books seems much in line with the thinking of my fellow alum, Noam.

This might be a good book for you to read this Sunday...and then.....

Upload your thoughts.

What do you think?

Best regards,

Gamma

No, not the hysterical type.

No it’s not, it’s just fiction.

War is probably the most unpredictable feature of humanity, it’s useless to guess how/when it will start and how it will end, especially the nuke aspect. It’s best to go on with life without the concern, not a damn thing any of us can do about it anyway.

I oppose: War is the most predictable activity of humanity. A group of historians have traced back human existence for 2000 years. They found, that only during 350 years of this time, "the recorded civilised world was war free". Unfortunately, I didn't copy and save those findings.

The fact that almost 80 years of "European Peace" has lured the after WW2 Generations into believing that Europe is "war proof" has shown to be an illusion.

War and violance is part of the human DNA. As well as Love and Compassion. We are the weirdest mammel that evolution has produced.

You’re challenged at English reading comprehension and mis-read another post. Or do you have a crystal ball, in which case then please tell us now when the next war will begin? And at what accuracy is your prediction level?

There’s a user on this forum who predicted a couple years ago that nuclear war by the end of 2024, then decided to change the prediction to 2025, it’s a guessing game, the same thing that pseudo psychics use to scam folks.

Yes, but I, and only I, am the weirdest of all of us mammals, including the woolly mammal, of course.

One thing which freaks me out, during the wee hours....is....

Most of those in power do not realize just how close we are to midnight.

Also, they do not understand the science of nuclear war.

And, they do not smoke, like Carl.

Who is Carl, anyway?

Sagan, of course.

There is just so much that most here on this glorious forum do not know, and I have no time....

So, the thing that freaks me out is that those in power have no understanding of science, or the science of things which have the potential to cause existential catastrophe.

Most are lawyers who don't even know why Pluto is not a planet, anymore.

We are being led by elected idiots.

This is really not a good circumstance if we wish to survive.

And, my guess is that humanity has this secret wish to die....or then....why would we be doing what we are doing?

Thanatos has no prick because, Unlike David...

No need for procreation, is my guess....am I right????

Sure, you can pooh-pooh what I am saying....but then....

you are just whistling past our collective graveyard, IMHO.....

I know that you know what I mean, even though you might not be willing to admit it to your conscious mind, even though...

Deep down...
you know that this is true.

Indeed, but we are fantastic and capable of great things. It is ego and identification with the mind that has thrown us off. Still evolving. Hopefully we can get to the stage where mongrels like Putin and co are automatically eviscerated at birth. I also like the idea of a Logun’s Run scenario… getting rid of the olds, including me. They should at least not be allowed to make any decisions that affect humanity, or own vast mounts of property and land.

In my library, but haven’t read it yet. She was on Lex Fridman a while back; found her a grind to listen to in that whispery tone of hers.

The thing was....

She seemed so very fascinated by it all....

Sort of like Morticia....

Still, her book is not too bad....really.....

During her interviews, she comes off as if she is gloating over the annihilation of the world....haha....true.

But, i doubt she is gloating.

I think she might just be extremely fascinated by her topic.

Wars are theft writ large. Territory, water, oil, resources. It has always been that way.

The Romans invaded Egypt for food. Hitler invaded Russia for lebensraum and oil. Ukraine hosts 25% of the world's chernozem, the most productive soil on the planet.
