Will be attending the wedding reception of an "older" (retired) couple (Foreign-Thai) at a large hotel in Chiang Mai. Not attending the wedding.

Appropriate gift suggestions, please ?

Seriously though, why not approach it Farang style and just ask them. Discreetly.

A thoughtful gift for the wedding night and follow-on honeymoon:

The last wedding gift I bought was a highly decorated & ornamental rice serving tureen with a lid. Actually, I've got to admit, I didn't actually know what it was, I just thought it was pretty. The couple (particularly the wife, who was Thai) were absolutely delighted. Seemingly it was a very traditional gift & signified a long & prosperous marriage. :o

Any more thoughts, forumites ?

The couple lack for nothing, which does not help. I just need a little inspiration here, for something that might make both bride & groom happy. Groom is probably less interested in the gifts than the bride, but still would be nice to find something special for both.

I will ask more Thais, but they have so far told me most of their experience is with family weddings, and they seem reluctant to advise about a Thai-Foreign wedding.

Any taboo gifts ? I heard that you should not wear black to a Thai wedding, so perhaps black gifts are out.

Wai Wai, if you don't get any more responses, maybe it might be an idea to pm a mod & ask it to be moved to the ladies forum. It's usually women that buy gifts for weddings etc, after all... :D. No, seriously - if it doesn't work on here, it might there. :o

Why not do it just simple, unless the couple is really close to you. My thumb of rule is that me and my girl usually spend the equivalent what we eat and drink and nobody has complained so far.
