Lazada payment process

Featured Replies

I bought something at Lazada and during the payment process my Thai bank account page showed up briefly.

I always use a foreign debit card for Lazada transactions and the payment was indeed completed automatically by using that foreign card.

But I found it disturbing that my Thai bank account page showed up during the payment process. It was too quick to see what information was on it.

Anyone else who experienced a similar situation?

By the way, I'm using Lazada already for a long time and something like this never happened to me before.

What precisely is a "Thai bank account page"?

It showed a page of my Thai bank account app, but because it disappeared so fast I didn't have the time to notice which page it was. I assumed it was the page for confirmation of the payment but then I realized I never use my Thai bank account for Lazada payments.

I use an overseas bank card for Lazada and seem to recall they use Kasikorn Bank as their payment processor.  There is a splash screen showing Kasikorn information which appears during the payment process.

Could it have been this screen you noticed?

Maybe, but this is the first time I've seen this screen in quite a few years.

I actually use Wise for my Lazada payments. Would they use Kasikorn bank as their payment processor?

My understanding is it is Lazada that drives the choice, in which case it would seem to be Kasikorn.  Is your Thai bank account app that you thought was being accessed the Kasikorn app?

Yes, I have a Kasikorn bank account and a Kasikorn app. A page of the Kasikorn app was displayed briefly, strangely enough.

I'd be pretty sure that was the Kasikorn system doing the payment processing task you saw and not actually something from the app.

Kasikorn doing the payment processing on behalf of Wise?

And any idea why I've only seen it once?

No, as above, on behalf of Lazada.

It's a few weeks since I've ordered anything so my recall may not be accurate, but I think it just comes up momentarily before passing you to the next stage in the process.  It may be if you blink you miss it.  I've a few things in my Lazada basket and will try to order on 8/8, so I'll keep an eye out for it then if no-one confirms here before then that what I describe is correct.

Slightly more expensive but COD avoids any such issues.

Your Thai bank account is not your bank account - it is the clearing bank (usually Kasikorn) that is clearing / processing your UK card.

I only ever buy cash on delivery, a friend of mine paid up front never received his order, trying to get the money refunded was a nightmare.

And I only order from LazMall vendors.

If they want my money I open the packaging, if it's what I ordered, I pay the courier.

I have ordered with Lazada a long time,. many items, and always used a SCB credit card which is stored in the account. Fast checkout and never any issue.

Hopefully with a small tip for the extra time required to "check" your order?

I always tip, usually small amounts, in the hope of somehow eliminating the negative attitude towards foreigners prevalent in Thai society today.  Brings a smile on their faces for a second.

But yes, COD is the way to go, never to pay in advance.

Times 2 - I dont understand why anyone pays them before receiving the goods.  There are no consumer laws as such in Thailand and it is far safer to just pay COD. Besides, I would never trust a Thai company to have their website locked down and secure from hackers.

But it doesn't solve the issue of not being home when they deliver.  The first few Lazada transactions, I did COD.  But I had to get the goodies delivered to the office, and even then I was often unavailable.  (Besides, it's none of the receptionist's business what I'm buying).  After the first few, I went to payment by debit card and did a couple of hundred more, completely trouble free Lazada transactions.  They dropped the stuff off at the apartment office, who left it on a table next to the guard where everyone picked up their deliveries.  Never had a problem.

In fact, I was often offshore for a few days (weeks), coming home to my goodies.  Couldn't do that COD...

COD doesn't work for everyone, of course.
