Solution to Asylum Seeker costs

Featured Replies

I don't understand why this simple solution has ever been proposed.

Every asylum applicant should be made to work whilst they are waiting for their result. The money earned pays for their accommodation and living expenses, taking the burden from the tax payer.

Those that are genuine applicants will be happy to work.

Send small groups to each and every local authority. They house them and put them to work. Road sweeping, rubbish collection, general maintenence of local facilities. Most councils need more staff for jobs like this.

If the applicant is successful, they continue to work in the same job for a fixed amount of time. There could be a minimum wage requirement to keep their status and no benefits, as with the current visa system.

I think this would work as a deterrent to a large numbers of those currently arriving by boat.

Lol, and what work do you suggest a person without any ability to speak the language of the country they're in should do?

Road sweeping?  And who pays for the local authority that then pays the road sweepers? The tax payer you genius.

You didn't read my post through, did you?

They work to pay for the accommodation they receive. Right now, they get it free, paid for by the tax payer. If they work they give something back, you (not) genius.

I've seen many asylum seekers speaking English. That's one of the reasons they come here. The English speaking countries have forced English language upon the world, now asylum seekers are putting that skill to good use.

Unfortunately I did.  From your own post:

So basically the local authority pays them.  Which means things are exactly where we are now, the taxpayer pays. Only with your idea there'd have to be a complex bureaucracy built up to provide and oversee road sweeping jobs.

They give something back already anyway, have you seen the taxes the pay after they get jobs in the real world?

You are missing the point, I think deliberately.

I've already said, they work to pay their accommodation. Right now, that is free. By working, they help with the jobs that would otherwise not get done or would need to pay extra to get done. No beaurocracy needed. They work with existing teams.

Brain and gear come to mind when reading your comments.

Really, so who would oversee these road sweeping cabals?

You are being deliberately obtuse with your selective reading and cropping of comments.

It’s a very good idea.

I think they should all be sent to Ukraine and made to spend at least 2 years with the Ukrainian army before they are considered for processing. (If they survive)

They should be made to prove themselves worthy of living in the UK first be prepared to die protecting it and it's way of life it should also come with conditions.

in order to integrate and live in the Uk they must convert to Church of England and live as a native British citizen would with British morals eat a full English breakfast as well as a lovely roast pork Sunday lunch every week drink English beer adopt a football team dress as a British person would abandon their old way of life and speak English.

(For English substitute Scots, Welsh, N.Irish if living there)
