Police have arrested a 40-year-old man from Sukhothai in connection with the seizure of 2.5 million methamphetamine tablets, apprehended en route to the southern provinces. The operation, staged at the Phayuha Khiri checkpoint in Nakhon Sawan, was part of a coordinated crackdown by regional and narcotics suppression units.

Under the direction of senior officers including Police Lieutenant-General Kitisak Durongkhwiboon and Deputy Chief Amornsak Kasemsiri of Region 6, law enforcement set up a roadblock following credible intelligence that the suspect’s vehicle, bearing licence plate 86-4810 from Suphanburi, would be used to ferry drugs from the north to buyers in the south.

The vehicle, a yellow Hino pickup truck modified for specific transport duties, was pulled over at the checkpoint in Tambon Yan Matri, Phayuha Khiri District. The suspect, identified as Mr Porntep “Ton” Kuikaew of Sukhothai, appeared visibly nervous during questioning, prompting officers to conduct an X-ray scan of the vehicle. A detailed search soon uncovered the massive haul of illicit pills.

Interrogations revealed that the drugs originated from a neighbouring country before being collected in Phrao District, Chiang Mai. Mr Kuikaew had intended to deliver the narcotics to Ron Phibun District, Nakhon Si Thammarat, for distribution and was to be paid 300,000 baht for the task.

This successful bust represents a significant disruption of the drug trafficking network linking northern production zones with southern distribution channels.
