U.S. President Donald Trump has formally thanked Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet for nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize, commending Cambodia’s role in brokering a ceasefire with Thailand after a deadly border conflict.

In a letter dated 20 August and shared by Mr Hun Manet on social media, President Trump described the nomination as a “great honour” and praised the Cambodian leader’s commitment to peace. “It was a great honour to speak with you to help end the fighting with Thailand,” Trump wrote. “I am proud to be a part of the cease-fire deal that ended the horrible fighting and saved thousands of lives.”

The ceasefire, reached on 28 July after five days of armed clashes, marked the most serious escalation between the two neighbours since 2011. Trump’s intervention reportedly included direct calls to both leaders and a threat to suspend trade negotiations unless hostilities ceased. The truce was facilitated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and backed by U.S. diplomatic pressure.

Cambodia’s nomination of Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize has drawn international attention, with over 2,500 Buddhist monks marching in Phnom Penh to show support. The move also signals a potential thaw in Cambodia–U.S. relations, which have long been strained over historical grievances and geopolitical alignments.

While Trump has previously been nominated for the prize, he has yet to win. His latest bid comes amid a broader campaign to highlight his role in resolving global conflicts, including recent peace efforts in the Middle East and the Caucasus.

The letter marks Washington’s first public acknowledgment of Trump’s involvement in the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire. As both nations now turn towards rebuilding trust and economic cooperation, the diplomatic spotlight remains firmly on the former president’s peacemaking credentials.

What absolute nonsense every single day.

Well played.

I suspect the Nobel Peace Committee will find someone more deserving than a convicted felon, sexual assaulter, pathological liar and implicit of genocide of Palestinians.

That's definite.

The irony of the Nobel prize is laughable.

Highly unlikely as he's been forced to be a war leader but that would be a greatest troll move against Trump ever!

Trump hates Zelinskyy almost as much as Obama.

That's why he's the perfect choice. Good snub for the Orange Buffoon.

They gave it to Henry Kissinger, may as well give it to President Caligula. A teddy bear prize from a fairground shooting stall has more relevance.

Hahahahahahahahaha. You guys are losers hahahahahahaha

Trump is Winning
