UN Report Accuses Israel of Genocide in Gaza Conflict

A recent United Nations report has accused Israel of committing acts of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The commission of inquiry asserts that Israel has fulfilled four of the five acts considered genocidal under international law, citing evidence such as statements by Israeli leaders and actions by Israeli forces. Israel has categorically rejected these claims, denouncing the report as distorted and false.

The allegations come in the wake of escalated tensions that followed a deadly Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, which resulted in 1,200 Israeli deaths and 251 hostages. Israel responded with extensive military operations in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of over 64,905 Palestinians, as reported by the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza. The attacks have led to massive displacement, destruction of infrastructure, and a severe humanitarian crisis, including a declared famine in Gaza City.

Israel’s foreign ministry has launched a strong rebuttal, characterising the UN report as biased and reliant on misinformation from Hamas. A spokesperson accused the commission's experts of acting as proxies for Hamas and insisted that Hamas has perpetrated genocide against Israelis, citing violent incidents from the October attack. Israel insists that it only conducts its military operations within legal frameworks and with the sole goal of neutralising Hamas.

The commission's report highlights the dire conditions in Gaza, pointing to the destruction of homes, collapse of healthcare systems, and obstruction of essential supplies. It alleges that Israeli forces systematically targeted civilians and significant cultural sites. In contrast, Israeli officials argue their actions are defensive and focus on dismantling Hamas’s operational capacity, with efforts to limit civilian harm.

As the situation develops, the report calls on the international community to act promptly under the Genocide Convention to prevent and punish genocidal acts. Meanwhile, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is set to examine a related case brought by South Africa, accusing Israeli forces of genocide—an allegation Israel dismisses as unfounded and biased. The UN commission, chaired by Navi Pillay, continues its investigation, suggesting they might further explore other countries’ potential complicity in the situation.

Key Takeaways

  • The UN report alleges Israel committed genocidal acts in Gaza.
  • Israel denies the allegations, calling them distorted and false.
  • The International Court of Justice is involved in a related legal case.

A loose equivalent to the current situation would be the end of the WWII and the allies continuing to bomb the German civilian population for another year.

The Germans surrendered and what was uncovered spawned the phrase "Never Again" the Palestinians are Hamas 🤔

Me too. But there is a huge community here who would oppose but favouring the slaughter in Gaza.

A loose equivalent with what the UN and leftist media want Israel to do would have been, once it was clear in 1944 that Germany had lost the war, for the Allies to have negotiated a peace treaty with the German government, leaving Hitler and the Nazis in power.

WW2 ended with the Germans surrendering when they knew that they had lost the war.
Hamas have not surrendered and released the remaining hostages (Hostages that no-one outside of Israel care about!)
It is not even a loose equivalent!
While the west continues to condemn Israel, Hamas will keep holding on as they think that they are winning.

Hamas is not a state, and Gaza’s civilians are not its citizens.

Many Palestinians have protested Hamas’s rule.

Not true at all. Hitler held out until they were almost knocking on his bunker door. He did not give a damn about the losses of the German people... "They brought it on themselves". He had his last stand brigades made of very old men and barely teen agers.

Watch the film "Untergang" or "Downfall" (German & English titles)

A UN report based on a UN commission of inquiry. Best ignored on both counts.

Israel has never truly committed to the UN Charter. But expects everyone else to recognize it when Israel feels threatened.

You were the one who brought up this separate issue by introducing the analogy with Germany in WW2 (‘allies continuing to bomb the German civilian population for another year’), my comment was just pointing out the lack of logic in your reasoning by making a play on your original comment.

The BBC reporting on the UN. Absolutelty no bias here.

Let me guess a main author of this report is a Muslim.  The word genocide is very loosely used and not applicable in this case.  If it was,

there wouldn't be a single muslim alive after 1 week. By the way, ever noticed what the Chinese are doing to the uyghurs?

WW2 lasted over 5 years, or over 1800 days. So a proportional equivalent would be continuing to bomb the Germans for 3600 years. In that case there wouldn't be any cultural vestige left to show that the Germans ever existed, just as is being now done in Gaza.

On the legal side, the Israeli government has fulfilled to definition of genocide. Even an Israel human rights organization has issued a report: https://www.btselem.org/publications/202507_our_genocide

As for the Chinese, they escape the accusation for several reasons:

They are not starving or otherwise inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about physical destruction; as for the other crimes involved in genocide, such as killing, this has to be linked to intent.

Xinjiang is recognized as a part of China, so the introduction of Han Chinese into Xinjiang is not a crime, while the movement of settlers into Gaza or the West Bank is a crime (though this is under the Geneva Conventions).

The UK bombed Dresden in 1945 when the Nazis were finished .

Up to 500 000 Germans were killed in the bombings .

I believe that many non-Nazi Germans supported the war, and 60-80% of Jewish Israelis also support the Gaza war, according to surveys. Sadly, their concern is for 20 living hostages, not two million largely innocent Palestinians.

The Nazis were in  position of no return, there was no possibility of then winning the war .

They were holding out in one last stand in Berlin, waiting for the inevitable .

Many of the Nazis were already on their way to South America at that time .

They were finished, just waiting for the final whistle to be blown
