An Egyptian asylum seeker who raped a woman in London’s Hyde Park was revealed to be a convicted Islamic terrorist living in taxpayer-funded hotel accommodation.

Abdelrahmen Adnan Abouelela, 42, was jailed this week for eight and a half years after being convicted of rape at Southwark Crown Court. Shockingly, the Daily Mail revealed he had already been convicted in Egypt in 2015 for being part of a bomb-making cell linked to the Muslim Brotherhood. He and six accomplices were sentenced in absentia to seven years for plotting attacks on electricity pylons and gas pipelines.

Despite this conviction, Abouelela managed to escape Egypt, living for periods in Malaysia, Sudan, and Turkey before arriving in the UK in April 2023. He claimed asylum and was placed in a four-star Hilton Hotel in Ealing at taxpayer expense while his case was considered. The Home Office reportedly took 17 months to process his claim, during which he roamed freely, even posting a selfie at the Imperial War Museum North.

It was during this time that Abouelela attacked and raped a vulnerable woman in Hyde Park in November last year.

Egyptian court records confirm his ties to a terror cell operating in Cairo. In Turkey, he initially had his asylum rejected and was detained for 72 days in Istanbul before eventually being allowed to stay. Social media posts indicate he married in 2020 and had a child while living there. His wife and child remain in Turkey.

The case has raised fresh questions over Britain’s asylum system, with critics pointing to serious failures that allowed a convicted terrorist to remain at large until he committed a brutal attack on UK soil.

Key Takeaways:

  • Abdelrahmen Adnan Abouelela, 42, raped a woman in Hyde Park while housed in a Hilton hotel.

  • He was previously convicted in Egypt as part of a bomb-making terror cell linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.

  • The Home Office took 17 months to process his asylum application despite his terror record.

They asylum system in the UK is obviously broken!

ship him to Egypt, better he serves 7 years there, than the 8 & 1/2 in the UK which will no doubt release him after 4, cheaper for the UK
