Thaksin And His Wife Issued Arrest Warrants Over Ratchadapisek Land Case

lol Bangyai ...

Yeah I am sure that there is tons of footage where Thaksin personally ordered people loaded into trucks to die ....

(yet another facile poorly considered argument)

The investigations into all the charges against Thaksin are on-going ... this was one of the first ready and an assured winner. Any prosecutor would go for the sure things first because if you went for a more difficult case first and lost then Thaksin would have the "they are out to get me" factor working with more people. After being convicted and spanked for this there are fewer people willing to believe that this is just a political vendetta.

As if we need to wait for the judgement before we know the verdict. If there were a Ladbrokes in Thailand they would not be giving odds or taking bets on this. Of all the dodgy deals Taksin pulled and all the human rights violations he commited its interesting that this is the one they have chosen to magnify. It is likely that they went through them all with a fine comb before hand and turfed out any that had a paper trail leading to people they didn't want to be exposed.

Land deals like taxation leave a very clear paper trail, unlike other case where you need witnesses who can be "got at"

either by threat or corruption. Well I can't really remember now it was so long ago and my eyesight is not so good and it was dark so I can't be sure etc etc.

A bit like Al Capone - from memory they got him on tax not murder, or boot legging or so other crime needing witnesses to testify in cour.

Sondhi Warns of Chaos on Day after Landmark Ratchadapisek Case Ruling

UPDATE : 21 October 2008

Media mogul and People's Alliance for Democracy key leader Sondhi Limthongkul has called for PAD members to join their fellow protesters at Government House in preparation for the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Ratchadapisek land case against the former premier today.

The PAD leader discloses there will be attempts to incite chaos after the ruling is handed down.

Sondhi Limthongkul was warmly welcomed by the PAD protesters who are gathering at Government House. Reflecting the opinion of key PAD leader Chamlong Srimuang, Sondhi stated that PM Somchai Wongsawat is unfit to host the royal cremation for the late Princess Galyani Vadhana. He said Somchai’s role in the October 7th attacks, which resulted in two deaths, means he’s unsuited to host such a highly-regarded event.

Being a historian, Sondhi entertained the PAD crowd by comparing the current political crisis to a Thai folklore featuring a mythical giant, Nont Tuk, Phra Isuan or Shiva and Phra Narai or Vishnu. The giant had misused his newly bestowed powers, given to him by Shiva, and was consequently subdued by Vishnu. Sondhi explained that a power figure or a prime minister will be subdued accordingly if he misuses his authority.

The PAD leader dismissed the significance of the call for PM Somchai to resign by Army Commander-in-chief General Anupong Paochinda. He said General Anupong is insincere in his intention for the country, evident by his neglect to prosecute anti-PAD members who have committed lese majeste.

Sondhi then went on to say that the PAD will accept the Supreme Court’s Office for Political Post Holders’ ruling on the Ratchadapisek land case no matter what it is. He’s called for more PAD protesters to gather at Government House. He believes there are currently attempts to incite chaos and possibly violence to intimidate the judiciary.

Korn of the Dems has an interesting piece in todays Post where he argues for a democratic approach to resolving the conflict:

SHADOW BOXING

No silver bullet - not even with today's verdict

KORN CHATIKAVANIJ

Today is yet another landmark day in the long saga of landmarks in recent Thai politics. This is a Big One, though; the reading, after postponement by a month, of the Supreme Court verdict on the Ratchadaphisek land case with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as the accused. A guilty verdict would mean jail for Thaksin with no appeal.

and

Two things are certain though; the first is the need to ensure that justice is served and the second is that we must not be tempted to stray from the democratic path towards the resolution we all seek.

but maybe most interestingly and most dangerous to thegovernment:

So, working within the framework, we recently filed a petition with the National Counter Corruption Commission to declare the recent policy reading by the government in parliament to be unconstitutional. We contend that a vote was called for (in our absence) to approve the motion to allow the reading to occur, and that insufficient votes were cast.

The subsequent re-vote called by Speaker Chai Chidchob was a breach of parliamentary regulation and hence the reading itself was unconstitutional. If our petition is upheld, then this government would become invalidated.

The whole article is long but well worth a read and covers a lot of ground away from these quotes

Newin is missed in War Room

Thanks to the current political turmoil, 111 banned members of the defunct Thai Rak Thai (TRT) have found an opportunity to return to the political stage. A few weeks ago they set up their War Room in Shinawatra 3 Building......

The War Room brings together all the 111 banned TRT members, together with key men from the People Power Party. Together, they form a grouping powerful enough to decide the fate of the government. All the government's enemies are scrutinised thoroughly.

A study of the names of all key members reveals they belong to the party royalty, with direct links to the man in London......

- The Nation / 2008-10-21

Interesting. They have basically set up a state within the state. At the moment they control the state itself but clearly expect this may not continue and have their own alternative version set up to fight back if they lose control of the government.

Another thing to remember about this War Room.

Thaksin owned a Telecom, a Computer company and a Satalite company.

Combined that is world wide secure communications capabilities.

Don't for a minute think that Thaksin did not leave himself a secure channel of video conferencing to use.

Satalite dish in Kensington, one relay to his own satalite

with super secure backdoor left for himself. 256-512 bit video encription,

the guy is STILL IN THE BLOODY WAR ROOM talking with all.

His sister just says when to log on.

Any guess that ALL the main meetings happen after he wakes up.

And note they actually are arrogant enough to call it "The War Room".

What a mindset. Hubris is contageous!

Well JD , you maybe in asia but clearly not in this neck of the woods. Your puerile comment is pretty well on a par with your other churlish posts defending docters who don't care to treat policemen.

Recently we have heard a lot of gong banging and finger pointing at Somchai demanding that he take responsibility for the October 7th rioting. No demands for ' videotape footage ' of Somchai giving the order. The Pad posters have said that as he gave the order the buck stops with him. Using this standpoint the same applies to the Tak Bai incident which occured while Taksin was premier.

There is nothing facile at all about this. On the contrary it is the obvious truth. As for any prosecuter going for a sure thing. Correct. The prosecuters have picked this case because it is Taksin they want to nail and without treading on any higher authorities toes.

As for the request of video footage try :

Enough evidence here for any international court to make a conviction. But not here you are saying ????

JD, IMO the crimes here shown are much more serious than todays court ruling. Your facile post merely exposes the fact that your grasp of reality is tenuous at best.

Bangyai>> Surely you cannot be true?

Yes, one can demand that the 'buck stops at the top' when it comes to [moral] responsibility, and have a president, PM, minister or other step down - as has happened before and in other countries. (And sometimes not, ofc.)

But to prove something beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law is something different.

Surely you understand this too?

A gentle reminder. Thaksin et al has sold all the said businesses to the Singaporean. I believe he has no direct access.

Having said that, there is nothing stopping him from purchasing air time from any telco, and rent offices from any developer.

The Supreme Court started reading its verdict on a trial against ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra for facilitating a deal for his wife; Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra to buy a Bangkok land plot worth Bt772 million from the state.

The reading started about 2pm in a crowded court room in the Supreme Court office.

shifting to the Dr's again because you can't keep with the topic at hand?

shifting to somchai as well? There is little doubt that Somchai ordered the dispersal of the crowds on the 7th. Apples and Oranges compared to packing people into trucks.

nobody is arguing that there may be (may) other more serious charges against Thaksin (not Taksin) but that the case that was easiest and fastest to bring against him and to prove.

You shift and wiggle and resort to all manner of silliness to prove a point that is not worth proving. Look at the charges standing against Thaksin, they will be dealt with over time. Today is the first amongst many.

I'd point out how many common tactics you used in trying to shift things that just don't hold up .... but why bother :o

sure a 512 bit. A 256 compression is too blur. Specially as the compression is not working that efficient if the full area is covered. A square face fills the screen almost fully so you need a 512 bit feed to see the dear leader good enough.

Thaksin has his own computer IT staff.

He owned the company and sold it... He's still in bed with Singapore in other deals.

Sold or not and he left sleeper access into the systems without a doubt.

Professional hackers do that. This is SOP even in national and international systems.

Temasek also needed an in place operations structure still.

The OWNERS maybe Temasek, but his staff he installed is likely still in critical places.

And he has enough money still to BUY new staff as long as they aren't working against

Singapore interests. That's all he needs.

Besides no doubt he ALSO has a clause giving him access to data throughput.

His network of connections in the industry is not dried up.

He KNOWS every major satalite company out there. From builder to operator.

It is just nieveté to believe he isn't still 100% wired into the situation.

Unless you have personally SEEN the contract for sale, you have No IDEA

how much he got, where it was sent and what sweeteners like access lines

he still maintains.

Meanwhile the court is reading the verdict and it....

...The couple were accused of violating articles 4, 100 and 122 of the National Counter Corruption Commission law, and articles 33, 83, 86, 91, 152, and 157 of the Criminal Code, which bar holders of public office and their spouses from entering into a contract with the state....

doesn't look good for the defendants!
