Trump Urges Israel to Stop Gaza Bombing After Hamas Talks Deal

Donald Trump has urged Israel to halt its bombing of Gaza as Hamas agrees to enter hostage negotiations following the release of his peace plan. In a move considered a potential breakthrough, Hamas announced its readiness to negotiate the release of all hostages, although it stopped short of unconditionally accepting all aspects of Trump's proposal.

Hamas expressed willingness to engage in discussions through mediators and proposed handing over Gaza governance to a Palestinian authority composed of independents. The response from Hamas was sent to the US via mediators and obtained by CNN. As an immediate reaction, Trump posted on Truth Social, applauding the development and calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza to facilitate safe hostage release.

The Trump plan calls for the release of the hostages within 72 hours, alongside relinquishing power in Gaza. Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey have been applying pressure on Hamas to accept these terms. Although described as red lines, these conditions have not yet led to outright rejection of the plan by Hamas, which has historically resisted disarmament and international oversight.

Trump has been waiting since Monday for Hamas's decision. If Hamas hadn’t agreed by Sunday evening, further conflict was anticipated, as Trump had warned of intensified repercussions.

Reactions from the region were mixed. Egypt welcomed the positive development, hoping it would lead to the implementation of the plan and cessation of war. Similarly, Qatar expressed its commitment to discussions aimed at stabilising the situation.

Looking forward, negotiations will continue as mediators strive to bridge the gaps in the proposal. Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid sees an unprecedented opportunity to end the war and release hostages and has urged the Israeli government to proceed with talks.

Key Takeaways:

  • Hamas agrees to negotiate under Trump's plan, but not unconditionally.
  • Trump calls for an immediate halt to Israeli bombing for hostage safety.
  • Talks are ongoing with involvement from international mediators.

Im sure there will be someone to spin a negative twist

Stopping bombing for the negotiation makes sense.

Whether Bibi will do it is another matter.

Can I have some of what you're on?

Trump, with his eyes on the Noble peace prize, will say and Promiss anything for it, Hamas will not let go the hostages, not all anyway, and there will NOT be peace' between Israel and the Palestinians, not now or any time soon as the parties are so far apart with what they'd be willing to settle for, settle for, NOT peace.

Still a long ways to go to get a comprehensive agreement to end the conflict.  So many previous attempts have failed when it gets down to the details.

Must admit that I didn't see this coming, so, I'm optimistic that all parties can arrive at a final settlement, 🙏 :jap:
