Draft of Trump $1 Coin Confirmed as 'Real' by US Treasury

The US Treasury has confirmed a draft featuring US President Donald Trump on a commemorative $1 coin for America’s 250th birthday. The design showcases Trump’s profile on the front, with “Liberty” and “In God We Trus” plus the dates 1776 and 2026.6. Despite this confirmation, the coin's issuance remains uncertain due to existing legal constraints.

The United States Mint proposal arises under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act for redeveloping coins for the 2026 semiquincentennial celebrations. However, US law prohibits displaying a current or living former president's image on a coin, only allowing such a depiction two years posthumously. Yet, the Trump portrait appears on the coin's front side, potentially circumventing restrictions.

The reverse of the coin features Trump raising his fist, reminiscent of an incident in Butler, Pennsylvania. While legal interpretations differ, this portrayal does not fit the specific “head and shoulders portrait or bust” ban. A Treasury spokesperson confirmed the drafts' legitimacy, pointing out no final decision has been made and further details will be released when possible.

Speculation continues regarding Trump’s response; however, White House representatives speculated he would likely approve. Previously, Calvin Coolidge became the only living president depicted on a coin in 1926, according to The American Numismatic Association. The proposal will need careful consideration of legal constraints before anything proceeds.

Key Takeaways:

  • US Treasury confirms the legitimacy of the Trump coin draft for 2026.
  • Legal hurdles complicate its potential release, with existing laws needing navigation.
  • Further decisions and details remain pending, with no final design selected.

Trump is wasting his time with vanity projects like coins, ballroom etc and little time working for the country and the citizens.

Don't think it'll happen after losing the midterms............😉

The '$1' does not match the rest of the design lines, looks like poor photoshop add on.

"(b)United States currency has the inscription “In God We Trust” in a place the Secretary decides is appropriate. Only the portrait of a deceased individual may appear on United States currency and securities. The name of the individual shall be inscribed below the portrait." https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/31/5114

"But the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which Trump signed in January 2021, states: “No head and shoulders portrait or bust of any person, living or dead, and no portrait of a living person may be included in the design on the reverse of specified coins,” which include the semiquincentennial series among others" https://fortune.com/2025/10/04/president-trump-coin-america-anniversary-likeness-law-treasury/

Seems to be against the law, but since when has a little thing like a law ever stopped Trump?

The inscriptions need to be changed though:

In God We Trust = In Trump We Trust - to pander to his god complex

E Pluribus Unum = E Unum Pluribus - to show his divisive effect

Print it.

So every time in the world someone will see this perfect goon face on a 1 Dollar coin he has something to laugh.

Actually I agree it’s a troll to titillate his base and anger the lucid amongst us.in my view it’s another tool to divide us and further erode Americas place in the world.some president ehh?

I hope this never gets minted, but as long as Trump is president, virtually anything can happen. 🥹

A 150th anniversary coin was minted in 1926 featuring the likeness of then President Calvin Coolidge known as "Silent Cal".

One can only hope.

Thanks to the lunatic left.

I think they're great! I still have some bicentennial quarters.

We've hat to stomach that POC FDR on the dime for 75 years and JFK on the half for fifty, I love the idea of another Republican on the new dollar.

They'll be melted down once he's gone.

"In God we Trust" - shouldn't that be "In Gold we Trust - and Trumpcoin".

AI quickie:

The value of a 1926 commemorative coin depends on the specific coin and its condition, but generally, a 1926 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar in good condition can be worth around $200, with uncirculated examples fetching much higher prices. The 1926 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar is a silver coin featuring portraits of George Washington and Calvin Coolidge, with only 141,120 minted, making it rare in good condition.

-- Such a deal.

They should also mint a Biden coin....a penny with Biden wearing a sombrero.

Standing by for the "thumbs down" response in 3, 2, 1....

Another act of a man desperate to leave his imprint on America, desperate for attention, and desperate to further that ridiculous name and legacy of his.

From the link above:

To be eligible, a president must have been deceased for at least two years prior to the time of minting. The United States Mint called it the Presidential $1 Coin Program.

NB to my link above Coolidge was the last time a living President was so honored

Maybe for the Fight! Fight! Fight! side of the coin, they should honor Knute Rockne instead:

From Knute Rockne's newsreel simulation of locker room Pep-talk speech 1928:

And don't forget, men -- today is the day we're gonna win. They can't lick us -- and that's how it goes... The first platoon men -- go in there and fight, fight, fight, fight, fight! What do you say, men!
