Gaza Flotilla Activists Allege Abuse in Israeli Detention

A group of activists, including Italian Lorenzo D’Agostino, detained by Israel after attempting to breach the Gaza blockade, claim they endured harsh treatment while in custody. D’Agostino reported being forced to kneel for hours and suffering humiliation, although Israel firmly denies these allegations. The incident occurred after the flotilla, carrying humanitarian aid, was intercepted by Israeli forces.

D’Agostino described conditions in custody involving minimal clothing in cold temperatures and tight restraints. He noted that those from countries not allied with Israel faced harsher physical treatment, recounting a cellmate's broken arm. Israel has dismissed these claims as false, stating that all detainees' legal rights were respected.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which left in late August, aimed to challenge the lengthy Israeli blockade of Gaza. Among those arrested was climate activist Greta Thunberg, who was reportedly made to pose with Israeli flags. Legal representatives assert that the purpose of these actions was to degrade the detainees.

Thunberg was deported on Monday, returning to Athens where she criticised Israel for blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir's visit during detention added tension, as D’Agostino noted an increase in the guards' harshness. Ben Gvir voiced his disagreement with Prime Minister Netanyahu’s decision to deport the activists, suggesting they should have been held longer. The Israeli foreign ministry refuted abuse allegations, calling them fictitious.

Other activists shared experiences of deprivation and intimidation during detention. D’Agostino and others described being forced to watch graphic content about Hamas’ attacks and experiencing mock executions. Israel continues to deny any misconduct, labelling the activists' allegations as part of a coordinated misinformation campaign.

Key Takeaways:

  • Activists report mistreatment by Israeli authorities, but Israel denies the claims.
  • Greta Thunberg and others were deported after the attempted Gaza blockade breach.
  • The Israeli government insists all legal rights were respected during detentions.

I'm not surprised at all, since Israelis are well known for atrocities and cruelties to their enemies

As I recall, their Biblical heroes were celebrated for conquering cities and leaving no man, woman, or child alive.

Yes that's how Thunberg recruited them so effortlessly.

Did you believe Greta (or whoever actually wrote the post for her) when she said Israeli hostage Evyatar David was a Palestinian prisoner who had been mistreated by Israel?

Greta Thunberg Deletes Post Protesting Treatment of

Palestinian Prisoners After Hamas Hostage Pic Mix-Up

Greta Thunberg was forced to delete an Instagram post protesting the “cruelty and dehumanization” dealt to Palestinian prisoners of Israel after the sister of a Hamas hostage pointed out she had mistakenly used a propaganda image of her “starved” brother, thinking he was a Palestinian.

The post, shared Monday by the Swedish activist and other campaigners, claimed to highlight “the suffering of Palestinian prisoners.” But one of the photos was a still of 24-year-old Israeli hostage Evyatar David pulled from footage released by Hamas in August that showed the prisoner, gaunt and shirtless, digging his own grave.

More antisemitic nonsense.

Any other Jewish tropes you'd like to share? Maybe some jokes about the complaining Jewish mother in law?

That just highlights once again how utterly clueless this little imp is.

An old Jewish mother complains to her friend, "My son Joey converted to Christianity."
Her friend says, "My God, my Eddy also converted! What can we do about it?"

The first woman responds, "The only thing we can do is pray."

So, the two of them head to the synagogue, where they sit down with prayer books and pour out their hearts to the Almighty. After a few minutes, they hear a booming voice coming out of nowhere.

"How am I supposed to help?" God says, irritated. "My son converted to Christianity too!"

You're welcome.

Actually, the first time I saw it was your post, so I never had the chance to believe it or otherwise.

We see too often people choose a picture for social media to illustrate their point.  It doesn't necessarily mean their point is wrong, it just means they were either careless idiots or deliberate liars.

I do find Greta annoying, however, what she did was a good thing and she's generally on the side of right.

,,,

  A different version of that joke is popular in some U.S. Jewish communities.

An Orthodox Jewish man in New York sent his teenage son to Israel for a year to improve his Hebrew and absorb the culture. He was extremely distressed when the son returned to New York and informed his father he had converted to Christianity after a visit to Bethlehem. The father took his problem to his best friend.

“Izak,” he said, “I sent my son to Israel to better learn the language and culture, and he came home a Christian. What can I do?”

“Strange you should ask,” said Izak. “I too, sent my son to Israel, and he also came home a Christian. Perhaps we should go see the rabbi.”

So they did, and they explained their problem to the rabbi.

“Strange you should ask,” said the rabbi. “I, too, sent my son to Israel, and he also came home a Christian. What is happening to our young people? The only thing we can do is pray to God for guidance.”

They all prayed intensely, telling God about their sons. When they finished their prayers, a voice came from the heavens: “Strange you should ask. I, too, sent my son to Israel and he, too, came back a Christian.”

Complaining mothers-in-law are a humorous and harmless trope, which Jews themselves laugh at.  @newbee2022 is more likely to believe in blood libel, the  false accusation Jews murder children for ritual purposes.  It's been around for centuries and you can still hear echoes of it today.

Oh the petals.

What a joke and to think some people care about their silly flotillas.

Pity they can't direct their attention into publicly urging Hamas to lay down their arms and return the hostages. For the sake of the Gazans, that they think a few boats will feed. Unreal. I know, it's the message they care about. Clowns.

Trump plan is looking good and wonder how these evil little gnomes will respond - celebrate?

Greta is never in school or kicked out, no wonder she joined this flotilla.

Oh Jonny, Jonny. You really must learn the difference between antisemitism which is hatred of Judaism, and hatred of the genocide committed daily by the Israeli IDF.

This could be your Damascus point, similar to how various posters have stopped you trying to convince us that Nazis were actually “Socialists “.

You're welcome.
