Cambodia has been named the fifth friendliest country in the world, according to the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards — a global ranking based on thousands of votes from seasoned travellers.

Scoring an impressive 97.33 out of 100, Cambodia edged ahead of regional neighbours Vietnam (97.27) and Thailand (96.36), placing it firmly among the top destinations known for warmth and hospitality. The accolade reflects the country’s deep-rooted cultural values, particularly the Buddhist principle of metta — a Pali term meaning unconditional love and kindness towards all beings.

Condé Nast Traveller, a respected British travel magazine known for spotlighting high-end and authentic experiences, praised Cambodia’s welcoming spirit. “It comes as no surprise that the Cambodian people greet visitors with universal and heart-warming kindness, regardless of their background,” the publication noted.

Beyond its famously friendly people, Cambodia offers a rich tapestry of experiences. From the vibrant capital Phnom Penh to the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat — the world’s largest religious monument — the country blends urban energy with spiritual heritage. Travellers are also encouraged to explore rural homestays, where silk-weaving villages and working farms offer a deeper glimpse into Khmer life.

The top spot in the 2025 ranking went to Kenya, with a score of 98.46, followed by Barbados and Mexico. The list reflects not just tourist satisfaction, but a broader sense of emotional connection and cultural openness experienced by visitors.

For Cambodia, the recognition is more than symbolic. It reinforces the country’s growing reputation as a destination that offers not only historical grandeur and natural beauty, but also genuine human warmth — a quality increasingly prized by global travellers seeking meaningful experiences.

As tourism rebounds post-pandemic, such accolades may help Cambodia attract more visitors looking for connection, culture, and kindness.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

With the amount of scam compounds there running without any consequences I certainly won't be going anymore.

Thailand = 8th with the Seychelles.

Thailand - the Land of not so many smiles these days?

I agree with Cambodia's high ranking. What makes this ranking suspect to me, however, is that Vietnam ranks higher than Thailand. That doesn't make any sense to me.
