Police from Mueang Chiang Mai Station have arrested a couple who robbed a 26-year-old tourist from Hong Kong and recovered all stolen items within 24 hours. The suspects, a 46-year-old man and his 38-year-old girlfriend, were also charged with vehicle theft after officers found they had been using a stolen motorcycle. The swift resolution followed a report made by the victim at 18:00 on October 12.

According to investigators, the incident occurred near Karnkanok Village 19 when the tourist was cycling along the road. The couple, riding a blue motorcycle, approached and snatched her bag, which contained 2,300 baht in cash, a water bottle and a power bank, before fleeing the scene. The victim promptly reported the theft to police, who launched a coordinated search effort using nearby CCTV footage.

Within hours, officers identified and arrested the female suspect, followed shortly by her male accomplice. The investigation revealed that the man had been released from prison only two months earlier, in August and was unemployed. Police said he persuaded his girlfriend to assist in the robbery as a means of obtaining quick cash.

The stolen belongings were recovered and returned to the Hong Kong tourist, while the stolen motorcycle was handed back to its Thai owner. Both victims expressed gratitude to Mueang Chiang Mai police for their swift action and professionalism in solving the case. Authorities said the couple will face charges of theft and possession of stolen property, as well as vehicle theft.

Police stated that the operation highlighted the effectiveness of rapid response and CCTV surveillance in tackling street crime. They added that ensuring tourist safety remains a top priority, particularly in major destinations such as Chiang Mai, where authorities are working to maintain a secure environment for visitors.
