US President Donald Trump has announced via social media his intention to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary, to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine. Although the exact timing remains unspecified, the announcement follows a lengthy and "very productive" phone call between the two leaders. This pivotal meeting seeks to identify opportunities for ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Background context reveals that this development comes more than two months after Trump's previous meeting with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. Budapest was considered a location for that summit before Alaska was chosen. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who has built strong relationships with both leaders, expressed his readiness to host, declaring it as positive news for peace supporters globally.

In addition to the planned summit, Trump disclosed that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead a delegation of senior advisors to meet with Russian officials next week at a yet-to-be-determined location.

Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov described the call with Trump as "highly informative and extremely frank," supporting the planned Budapest meeting to address the Ukraine conflict.

Experts and officials reacted positively, with Russia endorsing the idea of holding the summit. Trump mentioned that the conversation with Putin covered various topics, including trade relations and peace efforts in the Middle East, which he believed could influence negotiations to end the Ukraine war.

During their conversation, Putin also thanked First Lady Melania Trump for her efforts in advocating for children impacted by the war.

Looking ahead, US President Trump is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, where they will discuss the recent discussions with Putin along with critical issues such as air defence and long-range missiles. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt mentioned that further details about the call would be provided soon, emphasising the significance of the extensive dialogue between the leaders.

Key Takeaways

  • Trump and Putin agreed to meet in Budapest to discuss ending the Ukraine war.
  • US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead meetings with Russian officials soon.
  • Trump will meet Zelenskyy to further discuss Ukraine and military support.

Ooo, another of those private meetings!  DT will bring the Moet and the Frank Sinatra music, Vlad just needs to bring his irresistible self.  You know damn well Orban is going to have it recorded.

Anyone else notice how un-cheerful DT looks when he exits these meetings?

Already signs of Trump softening his hard position on Putin even before meeting Putin. After his phone conversation with Putin, Trump now seem reluctant to send the Tomahawks to UKraine with the silly excuse "we need Tomahwaks for the US too. We can't deplete for our country". Trump decide to meet Putin and then meet Zelensky in the Oval. Not a good sign, Typical Trump's erratic ambiguity and unpredictable foreign polices. No allies trust him on foreign as well as trade policies.

My theory at present: DT and Vlad come up with an action that would justify the War Powers Act.  Big-time sabre rattling, the country is at threat, and of course the Dems are behind it.

Why the MAGA WH wants to destroy the US I just don't get.  Putin, crystal clear.

TACO at it again. Putin is playing Trump like a fiddle, every single time. Does anyone really think this is going to be any different?

For crying out loud, does Trump ever learn?

Zelensky can say bye bye to tomahawks now.

Wasn't ever going to happen.

No way to tell a nukular-tipped tomahawk from a conventional tomahawk.

What response would you expect if potential nukular missiles (operated by US troops) launched from Ukraine enter Russian airspace?

Think they're gonna wait to see the mushroom cloud to roast our hazelnuts?

Just more of Trump's "Art of the TACO."

The narcissist wants global attention. Any opportunity. And not to mention he's probably also kicking off his campaign for next year's Nobel peace prize.

So it's gonna be a repeat of the Budapest Memorandum 1994. Wash, rinse, repeat....

The United States continues to import low-enriched uranium from Russia, which is a key feedstock for producing nuclear reactor fuel. This trade takes place despite mutual restrictions: a US import embargo (in force since May 2024) and a Russian export ban (since November 2024). It remains possible due to one-off permits issued by both sides.

Seems like every time Trump meets with a world leader he gets played and he gets out negotiated. I think they simply don't respect him and consider him to be a bit of a self obsessed fool.

  • Popular Post

Just as I thought. Tomahawks are off the table, as soon as Putin was on the phone.

What a coward and a joke. TACO.

Yup old Donnie’s in for a tune up and will most likely be back spouting putin propaganda and stabbing Ukraine/ nato in the guts…..I’d be absolutely delighted to be wrong but suspect from trumps history of being an asset to the enemy it’s what will happen.sad

And? Nothing came of those claims. Trump was in the White House  back in 2017 for 4 years. He couldn't find anything then and he still can't find anything now.

I will let this meeting play out before commenting.

Appreciably, the outcome may be predictable, but I still want to hope for the best.

Don't kid yourselves, Ukraine's European neighbors are just as nasty to Ukraine as the Russians, except they despise the Russians more. Romania, Poland, Slovakia, and some of the Baltic states, all have had an historical  presence in Ukraine. There was a time when the when the Grand Duchy of Poland - Lithuania ruled.

Orban's statement that Ukraine is not a sovereign nation speak not just to its role as a Russian enabling stooge, but to the inherent bias of its leaders like Orban who still long for the glory days of the Austro-Hungarian empire, when the  Hapsburgs controlled a part of Ukraine as well as much of eastern Europe.

Think Moscow. Think hotel suites. Think very young, videotaped and kept for the infamous Kompromat.

Just ask yourself would Trump be able to say no to five exquisite model types? And would Putin resist an opportunity to make sure that they look 20, but are underage?

We don't really know if there is or there isn't Kompromat on Mr. Trump but we do know for sure his behavior towards Putin is spectacularly bizarre.

My opinion is that it's not Kompramat.

I think Trump sincerely loves and admires Putin as a man and as a murderous dictator. His top role model as it were.

Also there is a long history of shady deals between the Trump organization and Russian oligarchs. Trump is very motivated by money. He is the most corrupt president in American history and it isn't even close. It's never been America first for him. It's always Trump first.  While he's too old now to enjoy the additional billions / trillions that Russia is clearly tempting him with for very long, he also cares about a legacy for his family.

Everybody giving out on Trump, yet all the world leaders in front of the cameras are openly bootlicking the Donald.

Those ultimately at fault are all those heads of state, mainly all over most of Europe, who have been boot licking America for decades.

Even much before Trump, America (their politicians and bureacrats not refering to americans so please...)....America has always been a global bully.

I beg to differ they know how to get by with a mylignant narcissist I’m sure they are being advised by experts as to best handle ( the Donald) as you call him.
