October 21, 2025Oct 21 Popular Post Makro Pro Online was down for a couple of days due to "maintenance." It's back online now, but I'm noticing some issues: About half of my saved regular items have disappeared Around 50% of my product searches are now showing as unavailable Is anyone else seeing the same problems? Or was this "maintenance" just another classic Thai IT F**k up ?

I long had a long Favorites list with them with many items. But then one day not long back, most of them suddenly disappeared... And when I tried to add some back, others got deleted... It looks like they adopted some kind of system limit of items (like 10) per list.... So, I found a way around that... Their system allows you to create more than one named favorites list... So I created multiple lists called Fav 1, Fav 2, Fav 3, etc, each with about 10 items... And I've been able to keep and use all those just fine using that method.

Thanks a lot. So better with Tops, where you can choose to pay cash or QR or in advance. Apart from pricing of course where Makro will be better.

Actually, you can also pay by bank card after the fact, if you indicate that in the payment method when you place the online order. I do that for every order, and then after the delivery is complete, the Makro office staff automatically send me a Thai bank payment link either to my TH mobile SMS or my email address on my Makro account, with the weblink to make payment via a VISA or MC bankcard -- in my case, with my home country bank cards. It works great, though you want to be doing the online payment with a Thai IP, or the local payment system sometimes will reject the payment if attempted with my home country IP. Unlike Tops delivery, the Makro delivery staff are NOT equipped with the handheld swipe and pay portable card machines that would enable them to process the payment while they're there at your home.

November 5, 2025Nov 5 The favorite list had changed to being on one page to being on several pages, which you have to scroll thru, several weeks ago. With about 10 items per page. That said, I just checked the online site and about 80% of the items I had saved are gone.

It is like a 90 baht fee otherwise. Also you can still prepay for a delivery if you want. But I find paying on delivery is the best option. They are often short of some items and some are sold by weight and will cause an adjustment to the price. If you do select to pay on delivery you can not pay in cash. I always scan a QR code the driver provides after everything has been checked to pay using the bank app.
November 5, 2025Nov 5 Ever since the Dutch sold their Makro shares, the shops went downhill in free fall. 4 x 12 metres of Coca Cola walls like Lotus's but the imported food section has shrunk tremendously. Some products were delisted (in Nong Khai) to the frustration of the Lao customers (i.e. tuna steak in brine/oil in 3.8kgs cans). Some pasta packs were stored in god-only-knows-where as upon putting them into my kitchen closet I noticed serious bug parties going on inside the package - forget about returning for replacement. They still print their twice monthly "magazines" but are unable to run a regular newsletter. All stuff which is of interest to a wholesale customer with a restaurant. Meanwhile the Grannies roam the store looking for their uncontrollable grandchildren as the whole exercise seems to serve the purpose of an outing rather than shopping. Oh well, fine with me but rather a revelopment than a development!
