Met Police Probe 9,000 Cases of Child Exploitation in Review

The Metropolitan Police announced a thorough review of 9,000 cases of child sexual exploitation, highlighting its commitment to tackle the issue with rigour. This reevaluation includes cases involving family, peers, institutional settings, and those outside typical "grooming gang" frameworks. This move follows a national review revealing that such exploitation is more extensive and less reported than previously believed.

Background information from the National Audit on Group-based Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, led by Baroness Casey, criticises discrepancies in how the Met and local authorities record child abuse, noting a lack of transparency regarding ethnicity. Released in June, the audit indicates a systematic avoidance of the subject by authorities. The Met has since expressed its determination to disrupt such offending, detailing improvements like training 11,000 officers and bolstering child exploitation units.

Experts and officials, including London Mayor Sadiq Khan, have demanded accountability and transparency. Khan has pushed for comprehensive investigations into these crimes, deeming the perpetrators and their actions abhorrent. Echoing this, the Met has resolved three times as many cases last year, charging 134 more suspects, a testament to their enhanced focus.

Looking forward, the reviewed cases span a 15-year period, mirroring the timeline referenced in Baroness Casey's report. The initiative underscores the Met's intention to eliminate negligence in handling exploitation allegations and fortify safeguarding measures for victims. Not only is the initiative aimed at justice for past victims but also at preventing future abuse.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Met Police are re-examining 9,000 child exploitation cases.
  • Improvements in investigations have led to a tripling of successful prosecutions.
  • Officials emphasise full transparency and accountability when addressing past failings.

Talk about overdue action that you have only been forced into because of public outrage and the political situation, instead of just trying to bury it and no-one notices, which you preferred... slow clap Scotland Yard. How far the UK has fallen.

Suicidal empathy ... They can't even bring themselves to call a rape a rape - it just called exploitation.   Scandalous cover-up. no effort to seriously prosecute anyone - how can the MET be trusted?

The MET obviously cannot be trusted, neither can the judiciary, or some MP's.

This scandal stinks to high heaven, everyone was in on the cover up, so as not to upset a certain demographic!!

Not so much a lack of transparency as a deliberate and calculated attempt to cover up the truth.

Instructions from above to try to show that it's not an issue dominated by Pakistani grooming gangs.

Shocking

John Wedger, a retired police officer has spoken out about this on many occasions.

The previous government overcrowded prisons and reduced police numbers for years. Not surprising that criminals get away unpunished. Labour are in a tizzy trying  to figure out how to improve police performance without raising taxes.
