An attacker remains at large following a Halloween incident where rocks were hurled at a Thai woman in Oakland's Little Saigon. Sasi Oda, the victim, was targeted around 9am in a local market, according to NBC Bay Area. CCTV footage shows Sasi defending herself with a cardboard box against both rocks and punches from the assailant.

 

This attack is part of a disturbing trend of violence against Asians, with a similar incident reported last week. Sasi's encounter occurred as she parked her car and approached a store. A bystander aided her by using a supermarket cart to fend off the attacker, who eventually fled when more people gathered.

Sasi had anticipated potential danger due to recent news of attacks in the area. "I felt like something bad was going to happen," she shared, crediting her quick thinking and a cardboard box for her protection. Her husband, Michael Oda, expressed relief at her vigilance and ability to stay safe, reported The Thaiger.

 

The couple has filed a complaint with the Oakland Police Department, though there have been no updates on the investigation. NBC Bay Area reported a lack of response from law enforcement to their enquiries. Warnings are circulating among Thai residents, alerting them to the rise in such incidents.

 

Another recent victim was Kulchaya “Candy” Tansiri, a Thai model attacked on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. She suffered injuries from a sudden assault with a plastic bag filled with shoes and other items, highlighting the broader pattern of aggression toward Asians.

The crappy neighborhood where I lived decdes ago now sports houses asking for around 2 mil. USD.

No way.  Last time I was in Oakland was in the 80s.  And it was an interesting visit.  I drove up for a meeting and got lost (pre GPS) and was driving down a street in my restored 67 Mustang convertible burgundy paint.  Top down no less.

 

At a light a 73 Mustang convertible burgundy pulls up next to me with 4 young black gentlemen in it.  Passenger says "how much?  My friend wants your car".

 

Yes those were interesting times.  😅

I always enjoyed Oakland including the Asian areas. To visit.

Perhaps there is still no there there but the there that still isn't there now costs a lot more.

An Oakland where there is a there there just isn't Oakland.

Memory of Oakland -- I actually got a once in a lifetime ticket for jaywalking there! On my way to a crap job at the time where the ticket cost about my daily wage.
