Channel 7 news has just anounced that the Town in Town Hotel in Pattaya has had to pay off 100 of its staff due to a down turn in tourism.  I suppose they will have to quickly adjust to the new philosophy of sufficiency, as will the local food vendors and landlords etc. who relied on their buisness - happy happy!  On the plus side though - hopefully - quality type tourists will replace the low level tourists who frequented this type of establishment , so the people who promote sufficiency will benefit from those who are lucky eo

gh to enjoy the benifits of sufficiency!

I think Thailand should only allow quality buisinesses as well.  And how about only quality political parties - Thai Elite love Thai Elite  party - after all poor people are happy with enough rice to eat!!!!!!

Major Town-in-Town Hotel Changes lead to staff protests in heated meeting.

Thursday 16th August 2007

On Thursday Morning, Khun Surapon, representing the Management of the Town-in-Town Hotel located in Central Pattaya convened a meeting of staff members to make an announcement concerning the future of their employment and of the Hotel. Khun Surapon mentioned that due to a downturn in business it has been decided to change the Hotel into a Serviced Apartment Complex.

This will result in 72 members of staff losing their jobs.

The lay-offs will begin on 1st September as this 360 room Hotel begins the transformation into Serviced Apartments.

The staff members are clearly unhappy and complained to the Management that they have not been given sufficient notice relating to the termination of their employment.

However each employee will be given severance pay which will include a full salary payment up to the end of October.

This place is past the 3rd road and has room rates from 850 to 1200 baht. I think their problem is location, not a lack of tourists in the area. For the same money you can stay closer to the beach. For not that much more you can get a pretty nice room close to the beach.

Is anyone noticing a drop in tourists in Pattaya?
