A car involved in a demolition derby crashed into a crowd in southeastern Australia, inflicting injuries on thirteen individuals, two of whom are in critical condition. The incident occurred on Saturday night during the annual Walcha Motorcycle Rally in the town of Walcha. New South Wales police confirmed the vehicle broke through a fence, striking the grandstand and causing significant injuries.

The demolition derby, where drivers intentionally collide their vehicles, was part of the excitement at the rally. The crash followed a collision on the track, involving the 27-year-old driver, who then lost control. Police reported that the injured spectators ranged in age from 20 to 75, with a 54-year-old man among those critically injured.

A local member of parliament, Brendan Moylan, shared on social media that nine individuals remain hospitalised and are recovering. The Walcha Motorcycle Rally and the local council expressed shock over the incident and pledged to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. Immediate conclusions were deemed inappropriate until all enquiries are complete.

Both Moylan and Barnaby Joyce, a current New England lawmaker, took to Facebook to express their sympathies. Moylan praised the emergency services and bystanders for their swift action, while Joyce lamented the tragic end to an otherwise enjoyable event. The incident casts a shadow over the community-focused motorcycle rally, which prides itself on its grassroots appeal, reported BBC.
