Over 250 Arrested in Charlotte Amid Trump Immigration Crackdown

More than 250 individuals have been apprehended in Charlotte, North Carolina, amid an intensifying immigration crackdown led by President Donald Trump. Officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that the arrests primarily targeted criminals and gang members. This follows similar federal actions in larger US cities like Chicago and Los Angeles earlier this year.

The operation, named "Operation Charlotte's Web," has sparked significant backlash from local lawmakers and residents. Democratic Governor Josh Stein claims racial profiling is involved, accusing agents of targeting individuals based on race. DHS has stated that the operation apprehended some of the "most dangerous criminal illegal aliens," citing crimes such as assault on law enforcement, driving while intoxicated, and document tampering.

Governor Stein denounced the operation, describing masked and heavily armed agents using unmarked vehicles to pursue citizens. “This is not making us safer,” he asserted. Charlotte's Mayor Vi Lyles also voiced concerns, urging federal agents to respect the city's values and commending community protests against the federal actions, reported the BBC.

The timeframe for these raids remains unclear, with similar operations continuing in cities like Chicago. Some in Charlotte are reportedly staying indoors to avoid federal agents. There are indications that Raleigh, another city in North Carolina, may be next to witness the operation, with Governor Stein advocating for a focus on violent criminals rather than ordinary residents.

Key Takeaways

  • More than 250 arrests in Charlotte as part of a federal immigration crackdown.
  • Governor and Mayor criticise racial profiling and the operation's impact on community safety.
  • Potential expansion of operations to Raleigh hinted, with ongoing protests and concerns.

Red meat for the AN haters.

It’ll be interesting to see how many of these 250 are ultimately released.

I voted for that.

I'd be way more happy when they start going after the employers.

The real haters are the ones who stand by and cheer while their countries are overrun with benefit-seeking economic migrants.
