December 4, 2025Dec 4 A Cambodian security guard has been stabbed to death in Poipet, deepening concerns over a string of violent incidents involving Thai nationals in the border town. The attack took place early on Wednesday inside an apartment block in Borey San Xian Hor, in the busy Phsar Kandal area, where two Thai men allegedly assaulted the guard with a knife, leaving him dead at the scene. A second guard was injured but survived. Police say nine Thai men and women were inside the building at the time. As officers and military police arrived, several of them fled, prompting panic among residents who shut their doors as the suspects ran through the complex. Two Thai nationals were detained shortly afterwards, though the motive for the killing remains unclear. Investigators have cordoned off the area and are continuing forensic work. The case comes at a tense moment for Poipet, a city already under scrutiny following a series of recent deaths involving Thai citizens. Several Thais have been found dead in the border zone in recent months, many linked to criminal networks, scam compounds or violent disputes. These incidents have fuelled public anxiety on both sides of the border and renewed calls for stronger cooperation between Thai and Cambodian authorities. Poipet, a major crossing point for workers, gamblers and traders, has long struggled with lawlessness tied to casinos and informal labour markets. While both governments insist they are working to stabilise the area, the latest killing underscores how fragile security remains. Cambodian police have not yet confirmed whether the suspects were living legally in the country or whether the apartment was linked to wider criminal activity. Officials say they expect to question more witnesses in the coming days. For now, the community is shaken, and the authorities are under pressure to show they can prevent further violence in a city where cross‑border tensions and underground economies often collide. -2025-12-04 ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français ThaiVisa, it's also in French
December 6, 2025Dec 6 If this guard was guarding a scam compound where those Thais were being kept locked up illegally, I for one don't blame them for potentially using excessive force to free themselves. With the ongoing border dispute and Poipet being what it is, I don't expect a fair trial and balanced reporting on both sides, in any case.
