I have seen that apparently in Pattaya the MFA offer walk-ins as well as online appointment bookings.

Are the Bangkok MFA locations only for online bookings and do not offer walk-ins for freedom to marry document legalisation? 

Yep, the Bangkok locations are only online booking,

    When you get your documents translated, you'll find they'll also offer the service to have the documents legalised by the MFA and return to your home address via EMS.

    Particularly helpful if you don't live in Bangkok and have to spend days there in a hotel.
