Flying to Vietnam

Featured Replies

I've never been to Vietnam but I'm planning to go there. Do they ask for a return or onward ticket if you go there without a visa?

"They".  Immigration?  No, at least not on my last visit.

How about the airline? I'm flying there from Thailand

Personal experience earlier this year, with a UK passport arriving visa-exempt, Vietnam immigration asked to see the onward booking on my smartphone. More recently this year, they didn't ask.

Both times I had a return ticket, so the check-in staff at BKK never needed to ask, as it showed on their screens at as an r/t booking. However, the check-in staff at SGN for my return flight had a quick flick through my visa-less passport and asked if I had an onward ticket from BKK but didn't ask to see it. Only the once, though.

Ok, maybe better just pay the 16 USD for the onward ticket then. Just in case.

A good idea.  The IATA Trvel Centre (https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/) has this statement for one way travel.....
