The Second Army Area in Thailand has called on the public and military personnel to cease sharing images and information on military operations. This appeal comes after clashes at the Thai-Cambodian border, where Cambodian troops attacked Thai positions in Si Sa Ket province on December 7. Officials emphasized that sharing such details could compromise troop safety and national security.

The request follows ongoing exchanges of fire starting Sunday, December 7, in the Kantharalak district after Cambodian forces launched an assault. In response, the Second Army Area released a statement on December 8 through their official Facebook page. The statement detailed the necessity for cooperation to prevent sensitive information from aiding enemy forces in analyzing and exploiting Thai operations.

Military officials strongly advised against disseminating information regarding weapons, plans, tactics, or troop movements. The statement included a stern warning against posting images with GPS coordinates or operational positions, stressing that even seemingly innocent details could be pieced together to form a comprehensive operational picture by adversaries.

The message concluded with a reminder of the pivotal role discipline plays in national security, urging all individuals to be cautious on social media to ensure the safety of military personnel and the country. The call for discretion reflects the serious implications of information leaks during heightened military tensions.

Looking forward, the situation along the border suggests a need for vigilance and restraint from both military personnel and civilians to maintain operational security. The military’s directive underscores the importance of responsible information sharing in safeguarding national defense, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • The Second Army Area asked for a halt in sharing military images/info.
