Anyone else noticed Bangkok Post's problem with comments?

When one opens Bangkok Post's main page on a pc there are loads of Thailand-related articles BUT suddenly the comments section on every article is blank - no one can comment. Looks like a selective censorship because in the sub-section News only the Opinion section now permits comments without which it would be pretty useless of course.

As Bangkok Post seem to be tight-lipped on this does anyone know if this is a permanent "shut yer gob foreigner" action or one of those software failures we are all used to?

We all know that the mainstream media here is very tightly controlled, and pays homage to whatever lowly administration happens to be in power. Censorship here is rife, so this kind of thing is to be expected.

Noticed this a couple of months ago - when logging in the process appears to complete, but doesn't, so cannot comment.

Maybe they check for subscription.

Bangkok Post has gone full woke liberal - comments have been blocked and every story about western events is left wing biased because they republish AFP articles which are left or far left - especially about Trump (see below).  BP also now imposes their AI BS on all website stories, and they now have added lots of intrusive ads.  And on top of that - nearly every 3rd article is basically and advert on behalf of some Thai business or political party or AI start up.

I no longer look at Bangkok Post for any news about Thailand - they are no longer a genuine news outlet. IMO BP have devolved into an advertisement driven news aggregator and are a woke liberal media group - it is just a matter of time before the 'go woke go broke' rule occurs.

Nope only on here.in 3,2,1

  • Major Shareholders:
    • Chirathivat family (owners of Central Group)
    • South China Morning Post of Hong Kong
    • GMM Grammy Pcl, Thailand's largest media and entertainment company

One of the major shareholders of the Bangkok Post is the South China Morning Post. So maybe that is one of the reasons that the Post is anti-USA.

TBH, most of the comments on BP stories were from the same sad troupe of witless foreigners, rarely discussing the news article at hand and far more interested in accusing each other of varying degrees of kiddy fiddling.

Maybe BP just got smart and simply culled the misanthropes?

Yes, a lot of the comments by readers were vile, I'm surprised the BP put up with it for so long.

On another note, I observed that there were no leaders or opinions published in the usual Opinions sections on Monday and Tuesday. Today, they've resumed, however.

Perhaps due to the outbreak of hostilities between Thailand and Cambodia.

Friday's column by Thitinan Pongsudhirak is always worth a read imo.

Gave up commenting on the online version of BP.....if I do comment now it's via FB.....the online version is hopeless.

I have noticed the same for about 2 weeks.

Some of my comments late last month were not posted - so I thought I was being punished with a suspension or denied access.

I have noticed that many articles have no comments listed, when one would have expected at least some.

Also some posts list a number of comments, but none are visible.

I even made some very favorable comments on editorials, which were not published.

I did ask their new Post AI Wiz "Deeper Dive" how to disable it; and did comment could the Post move its location on the page so it does not impact on reading articles.  In the first case, "Deeper Dive" provided the brilliant informative response that it did not know what "Deeper Dive" was!!!!

I checked yesterday and comments are back...

Yes. It tends to be 80% flame throwers and arguing between posters. Also, given Thailand's srict criminal law on libel, few, including me, would never post there. So because of that, and probably other reasons/concerns, it's kind of pointless TBH.
