Democrat Eileen Higgins Wins Miami Mayoral Election

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Miami voters elected Eileen Higgins as mayor in a rout on Tuesday, choosing a Democrat to lead the city for the first time in almost 30 years in a race that Democrats hope sets a precedent for the 2026 midterms.

Ms. Higgins, 61, will become Miami’s first female mayor and its first non-Hispanic mayor since the 1990s. Cuban American Republicans have dominated city politics over the past three decades.

“Together, we turned the page on years of chaos and corruption and opened the door to a new era for our city — one defined by ethical, accountable leadership that delivers real results for the people,” Ms. Higgins said in a statement declaring victory, promising to lead a government “that finally earns the public’s trust.”

I don't think it's unreasonable to infer that the immigration crackdown play the big role in this.

I don't know enough about local politics in Miami to comment as I don't live there and don't follow their elections or politics. Therefore any conclusion I would draw would be an ignorant one and not based on anything I know. Of course, I can just spew garbage from somebody else's mouth but that's not the style of folks like me who try to be critical thinkers

I too know nothing about Miami politics. But I do know its a Red state and a Red city. I also know it has voted Red for the past 30 years but did not in this years mayor's election.  A Democrat or someone that identifies as Blue won. Taking into account the last 3 small elections over the last few months I think we can begin to critically think that major changes seem to be on the way.

I used to live in South Florida and I've spent a lot of time in Miami over the years, a city which I like quite a bit. I can tell you from experience it's an incredibly conservative place, and the vast majority of the Cuban American community are Republican, so this is a big surprise and another upset for Tariff Tax Don.

Your comment is meaningless cuz you still hate Donald Trump so much it rules your entire life, and you have no history of living in Miami and knowing about their politics. Tell us how by the way it's incredibly conservative then

Endorsements don't change the parameters of local elections. I support trump, but wouldn't necessarily vote for some jerk I don't like. Like I said, I don't live there, I don't know much about the electorate there, I don't pay attention to what the issues are, and therefore, anything I would say is ignorant. Relying on what someone else says is even more ignorant

And how do you inform yourself about political issues? Telepathy? Direct mystic interface? No intermediate sources? It is to laugh.

And you don't think it's significant that Miami voters have elected the first non-Cuban mayor in 30 years?

Maybe they've finally decided to reject the nepotism and corruption endemic in that imported culture.  Given Miami demographics, she obviously had support of the Cuban community.  Against a Cuban candidate.  Of course, that's conjecture on my part without a better understanding of the race and contestants.  But as every Don Johnson fan knows, Miami has had a checkered reputation for graft and corruption under those Cuban mayors.

She looks pretty cornbread.   I haven't followed her politics, but I wish her success, for the benefit of the people of Miami.

Thanks for the moronic comment. Actually, both she and her opponent at work in government to clean it up. As far as that goes, both had very good records.

Can't comment on the specifics of Miami, but wouldn't a politician earning the public's trust be quite the thing?  By 'public's trust' I mean bipartisan, not just the Dems.

Good news Miami!

I can see the nuclear physicists are spending their time on the forum today. Thanks for your utterly brilliant and most informative contribution.
