A police officer was arrested after allegedly becoming violent under the influence of drugs and pointing a firearm at a fellow officer, with the situation narrowly avoiding fatal consequences when the weapon failed to fire. The incident was reported on 13 December and occurred in Khon Kaen province, causing alarm among police colleagues and nearby residents. No one was injured, but the case has raised serious concerns about safety within the force.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 08.30 on 11 December, after police received a call from a communications centre about an officer behaving erratically. The suspect was accused of being under the influence of drugs, threatening neighbours and causing serious disturbance within the community. An arrest team was dispatched to investigate the situation immediately.

At the scene, officers encountered Police Lance Corporal Piyawat, a serving officer attached to Mancha Khiri Police Station, who was reportedly in a highly agitated and aggressive state. The arresting officers attempted to negotiate with him and urged him to put down his firearm. He refused and instead drew his weapon, aiming it at Police Captain Thanabodi Meekham, Deputy Inspector of Crime Prevention at the same station, at close range.

The suspect allegedly pulled the trigger, but the round did not discharge, preventing serious injury or death. He then fled the scene on foot while still holding the gun, prompting officers to pursue him closely and repeatedly order him to surrender. The chase ended near the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) branch in Mancha Khiri, where officers successfully subdued and detained him.

A search following the arrest uncovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. Seized items included a modified .22 calibre firearm with no registration, various rounds of ammunition of multiple calibres, two 12-gauge shotgun shells and one red smoke explosive device. All items were taken into custody as evidence.

The suspect was taken to Mancha Khiri Hospital for a drug test, which confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in his system, according to official medical laboratory documentation. He was formally arrested and informed of multiple charges, including attempted murder of an officer on duty, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, carrying weapons in public without cause, and consumption of a Category 1 narcotic.

Matichon reported he was later handed over, along with the seized evidence, to investigators at Mancha Khiri Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities are continuing the investigation in line with standard procedures.

Lucky he was in Thailand...

Elsewhere that may ell have been the last thing he ever did.

That's his day ruined then 🤯

Handed over to HIS proper Police station to be investigated while he almost murdered another Police man????

Should higher level Police from Bangkok not be involved in such cases???

Time to start a random drug and alcohol tests as this isn'tan isolated incident, used to see police at certain out of the way restaurants in the area drinking heavily in uniform carrying a sidearm just take their shirt off and have white tshirt underneath.

Not sure how this druggie managed to survive this incident pull a gun on a fe.low officer and actually pull the trigger most armed police countries would have emptied a magazine into him

My local cop , who I used to pay to be allowed to do fireworks, shot and killed one fellow officer and shot and wounded another, jealousy was the motive, as usual!

Where is Big Joke? He could resolve this problem in a microsecond. I admire the man. He has balls bigger than the Moon. I think we should call him Batman's brother. Any ideas as to another name?🫠

Or maybe they’ll transfer them to that inactive post for a while TT

Yeah, think this happens in a lot of countries.  Wonder what the chances of brown envelopes being produced to avoid a test, or to get a "designated" copper to piss in the tube instead.

So the incident took place on Dec 11th with police in attendance but wasn't reported at the police station until the 13th?

Makes the cynical amongst us wonder it they spent a day and a half trying to keep the incident out of the public eye.
