Volkswagen plans to halt production of vehicles at its Dresden plant on Tuesday, marking the first time in the company’s history that a Germany-based factory has been shuttered.

With an installed capacity to build up to 37,500 cars a year, and the flagship of VW’s EV lineup, the Dresden plant’s closure comes against the backdrop of Germany’s broader deindustrialization, which started in 2022 when Berlin rejected the Russian energy supplies propping up its manufacturing base.

That's a shame

Interesting that there is not one mention in that video of the reason for the increased militarisation within the EU, namely the threat posed by Russia which, less we forget, is engaged in a war - sorry, special military operation - which it instigated.

Yes I noticed that. I must say that I would have felt more comfortable with the validity and veracity of the report had it come from Pravda or RT😁

I chose that one deliberately as a "soft troll", given the low level of political discussion on AN (IMHO of course!).

It's easy to find other sources.

People forget how Agenda 2035 been fast tracked; Convid and its endless sequels failed to gain the necessary traction.

You will not own a private vehicle (certainly not a petrol powered one).

This though, just a convenient scapegoat those pesky tariffs, sanctions and rumours of war.

Aside from consumers not wanting to buy EVs(for obvious reasons regardless of propagandists falsely telling us they last as long as a proper car) It was Merkles loony closure of Germans carbon neutral nuclear plants that kickstarted the "deindustrialization". You will remember the German leaders and NATO literally laughing at Trump when he warned them relying on Russia for their energy needs would cause problems. Ho ho ho silly orange man.

And here we are, and who do they blame for their own stupidity?

...Russia of course🤣

Not sure why you feel the necessity to bring Trump into the discussion? He was far from the only person warning against Europe's over-reliance on Russia for its' energy needs.

There's no denying that increasing energy costs have been a major factor in Germany's economic problems but it is far from the only one.

Russia is not being blamed for Europe's energy problems. It is, quite correctly, being blamed for invading a neighbouring, sovereign state and waging war against it.
