Iran Leader Says Nation Is In Full-Scale War With The West Today Summary

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that Iran is now in a “full-scale war” with the United States, Israel and Europe, escalating rhetoric days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meets U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. Speaking in an interview published on the website of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian said Western governments are seeking to destabilize Iran.

He warned that the current confrontation is “more complicated and more difficult” than Iran’s devastating 1980–1988 war with Iraq, which killed more than one million people across both sides. “They don’t want our country to remain stable,” he said.

Iran is expected to dominate the Trump-Netanyahu talks, particularly after a violent summer escalation. During a 12-day air campaign in June, Israeli and U.S. strikes inside Iran reportedly killed nearly 1,100 people, including senior military and nuclear officials. Iran responded with retaliatory missile barrages into Israel that killed 28 people, deepening fears of a wider regional war.

Pezeshkian’s remarks reflect mounting tensions across the Middle East as Israel’s conflict with Iranian-backed groups continues and diplomacy stalls. His framing of the confrontation as a total war signals Tehran’s intent to portray Western sanctions, covert operations, cyber activity and direct strikes as part of a single coordinated campaign against the Islamic Republic.

Netanyahu’s meeting with Trump is expected to focus on Iran’s regional activities, nuclear ambitions, and the risk of further escalation following the deadly June exchanges. With both sides hardening their language, analysts warn that miscalculation could trigger broader conflict involving multiple states and armed groups across the region.
