Andrew and Tristan Tate have urged a US court to release them from custody as they fight a potential extradition to the UK over allegations including rape and trafficking. The brothers, arrested in Miami on 19 July, denied the allegations and attacked their conditions in jail during a tense bail hearing. Tate brothers hit out at ‘small and hot’ cells Andrew Tate, 39, told the court he had “never committed the crimes I’m accused of”. His brother Tristan, 38, described his detention as cramped and hot, with limited sunlight and exercise. Tristan said the conditions were making it harder to help prepare his defence. He also claimed he had lost 14lb (6.3kg), saying: “It’s death by scurvy.” Prosecutors warn brothers could flee US government lawyers opposed bail, arguing the pair had access to substantial resources and could fund an escape. They also pointed to their claims of holding multiple passports. The defence rejected the idea that the brothers were flight risks, arguing their enormous public profiles would make disappearing virtually impossible. Dozens of UK charges now hang over them The Crown Prosecution Service has brought 59 criminal charges against the brothers, including rape, sex-trafficking offences and allegations involving indecent images of a child. The combined allegations involve seven accusers, with 38 additional charges unveiled last month. Britain has until 16 September to submit a full extradition request. US Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis will issue her decision on whether the brothers can remain free while that process unfolds. ‘If I go to England they will lock me up’ Tristan told the court that returning to Britain would put everything he had built at risk. The brothers also face a separate legal battle in Romania over sex-trafficking allegations dating back to 2022. Their case now carries major political and legal stakes, but the White House has said President Donald Trump will not intervene despite the brothers' vocal support for him. For the Tates, the immediate fight is no longer played out solely online.
