Advice on yearly marriage extenson requirments.

Featured Replies

Hello.

I am looking for some advice about my situation. I am in Chiang rai and originally from the UK. I have been on an extenson based on marriage for quite some years. My current extension ends on the 20th September. Due to my own stupidity I transferred my 400,000 to my seasoning account late. The money was in the account on the 1st August 2026. So that means the 2 months required will be on the 1st of October. This is 11 days late. I have been to immigration and been told the only way to proceed is to leave the country and obtain a single entry Non O. I am happy to do this. I was reading about The Thai consulate in Penang. They seem to want the money in an account for 3 months. Dose anyone have some up to date information about this. Any advice is greatly appreicated. I already understand I have made life difficult but circumstances were diffrent this year.

Maybe Vientiane would be better. See the thread below, 3 months back statement but the 400k only needs to be there at the end.

Have you EVER gotten the 60-day "Visiting Thai Family" extension? You can only get it one time per string of extensions for a single visa, so if you've ever gotten it you likely would not qualify again. But if you've never gotten one, you could ask if you can apply for that. Most immigration offices allow that extension, and that would give your money time to season for your extension.

If they say you cannot do that extension, then your only other option is to leave Thailand and get another non-O visa. That means you would either want to travel to Vientiene (for Laos you have to pay in person, so you would need to actually visit the the embassy there), or you would want to fly somewhere more convenient. I would recommend Vietnam since you can apply and pay online there.

I don't recommend ANY embassy or consulate in Malaysia. All recent reports indicate visas taking at least a month to process, and them requesting additional information 3-4 times even on information you already provided them.

OP, comprehensive reply from Brandon above.

Surprised immigration did not suggest 60 day extension to visit wife.

Implies they might not be inclined to grant that.

They should. Ask them.

Being UK pp you are visa exempt for Vietnam and a trip to Saigon would be my pick if you need to start over.

Alternatively do a border run with company to enter visa exempt and obtain Non O at local immigration.

Use TM87. Best to check with immigration that plan

Thanks for your reply. I had an visiting family extension some years ago so they could not do another one. I asked if I could come in visa exempt or on a tourist visa then use TM86 or TM87. Chaing rai said they can not process this. I would have to go to Mae sai office. They also indicated I probably would not be able to do this. So they said getting a single entry Non O is the best option.

Thanks for your reply. I also replied to BrandonJT. TM86 and TM87 can not be processed at Chiang rai, only at Mae sai. They said its unlikely I would be able to do that.

If I fly to Vietnam visa exempt. Would you buy a single or return flight ticket. I am not sure how long it takes to process the e visa. Also the TDAC. Do I complete this after I get visa approval and wait there another 3 days. Sorry to apear dumb. I just dont know the best way to do it.

TDAC can be submitted any time in the 3 days before arrival, in fact can even be done after you've landed (not recommended). It takes a few minutes to complete. Personally I would book a 1 week return ticket Sunday to Sunday allowing a full 5 working days for the consulate to do their stuff. Might not be needed but I like a holiday.

Thats great information. Thankyou.

The TDAC can be done in a minute up to three days prior to entry. Don't concern yourself about this.

The advice above is sound however I'm conservative type.

I would either fly one way or make it a holiday of couple of weeks so approval time for eVisa for Thailand not an issue. That's for Vietnam.

If Laos then you could reenter via land boarder.

Note in Laso there is no online payment for eVisa.

After making application (as soon as you enter) and receiving confirmation of application you attend embassy to pay in person.

Yes a pain.

eVisa in Saigon should be done in 5 working days but maybe not if they require something added to application.
