The People’s Party, through spokesman Parit Wacharasindhu, has clarified its position by stating its support for a military that protects Thailand's sovereignty. This assertion comes in response to criticism accusing the party of being anti-military.

The party has faced scrutiny due to past statements by its predecessors, the Move Forward and Future Forward parties, which were perceived as diminishing the military's role. Pita Limjaroenrat and Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit's remarks incited nationalist sentiments during armed conflicts with Cambodia.

Parit emphasised the party's conditional support for military procurement while advocating transparency and accountability in defence spending. He stated that arms procurement should involve technology transfer to create jobs for Thais and be suitable for emerging security threats.

He further stressed the importance of fair treatment and opportunities for military personnel, advocating for good compensation, welfare, career paths, and adherence to human rights in military camps. Parit insisted that the People's Party is patriotic, aiming to protect the national interest, reported Thai PBS WORLD.

Key Takeaways

  • The People’s Party supports a military that defends Thai sovereignty amid widespread criticism.

  • Defence spending should be transparent, and procurements should support job creation and be appropriate for new security threats.

  • Past comments by party predecessors caused controversy and scrutiny regarding the party's stance on the military.

It is strange to read every time negative news about the People's Party and the former parties. Nowhere is claimed that they are anti military. Reforms are needed on all levels, but reforms are not anti institution. Or does it means that if you want to reform the healthcare that you are against hospitals and doctors? Or reforms to get cleaner air that you are against the industry? just as a few examples... I know there is propaganda going on to try to prevent that the People's Party will win the coming elections, but I surely hope that the Thai people en mass really vote for them. It is the best for the country

Govt will throw everything they can to crush an effective opposition party. Future Forward was banned on flimsy reasons of financial contributions. Move Forward was dismissed by the Constitutional Court after winning enough votes to choose the PM. Their candidate, Piya Limjaroenrat, was a brilliant candidate who had the full support of the people. I believe he would have reformed Thai govt for the better.

Now People's Party พรรคประชาชน Phak Prachachon is bearing a full attack. I only wish they had picked the name of the 1932 revolutionists' People's Party คณะราษฎร Khana Ratsadon.

Edit still not working, Mods! Get your loved ones out to vote February 8th for the People's Party instead of those dried-up pols.
