Two white lions, Merry and Christmas, were treated for digestive problems in Ratchaburi, Thailand, after being rescued at the Thai-Cambodian border. Wildlife officials found them suffering from reduced appetite and defecation issues. Veterinary exams using X-rays confirmed constipation, prompting immediate medical intervention.

The lions were relocated to the Khao Zon Wildlife Breeding Station in late 2025 and assessed by vets in January 2026. Examinations through sedation showed no major blockages, but their intestines were clogged with compacted feces. The team administered enemas, revealing obstructions caused by hair, sand, and bone fragments.

Post-procedure, the lions received fluids, antibiotics, and dietary supplements from CH7 News. Dental checks showed both had tooth decay and plaque buildup, explaining feeding difficulties. Vets scaled their teeth and took blood samples for further analysis, while both lions began recovery without complications.

The lions, seized on December 25, 2025, by Royal Thai Marines in Trat province, were named Merry and Christmas to mark their arrival date at the wildlife station. Officials devised a comprehensive care plan, including scheduled meds and dietary adjustments, ensuring their long-term health.

Looking forward, ongoing monitoring will help maintain the lions' wellbeing, supported by tailored nutrition and medication. This approach aligns with Thailand’s broader efforts in wildlife conservation, reported The Thaiger.
