I looked through the forum and could not find an answer to my question. One of the teachers at our school went to Suvanakhet to get a new B visa. New had just started at out school and had all the proper paperwork.

He was told by the officer there that " We do not issue Non B visas for government schools" only for private schools.

Has anyone heard of this before?

He was a bit pissed after paying the fees and missing a day of work. The reason he went there is because it is 2 hours closer than going to Nong Kai/ Vientchang.

Was he black? A friend of mine, who applied for a NON-B yesterday, at Savanakhet, was told that they don't issue visas to black people. He was also going to work at a government school. But I don't think that was the issue.

Sadly Savanakhet is a non O and tourist type place.   I don't know of anyone that has got a type B there in fact I think it is now really run just for the visa run groups and does not do serious business visas!

Thais are racially prejudiced against anyone that is darker than they and it doesn't surprise me that the person was refused.   I would have asked for a consul and expressed my problem with their discrimination.  It would not have hurt.  I mean they can't refuse you a visa anymore!

if this is true, it is SERIOUSLY f**king pathetic. beyond idiotic. what a joke!
