How can three days be a week?

During a cabinet meeting on 29 January 2026, Trump announced he had made a personal request to Putin to halt strikes on power grids for a week, and that the Russian leader had agreed.

Following the announcement, there were almost no strikes on energy facilities in Ukraine, starting the night of 30 January 2026.

However Putin clarified that the "recess" would only last until 1 February 2026. And indeed, Russia launched a massive aerial bombardment on the night of Monday, 2 February, attacking power plants and the energy grid in Kyiv and other major cities.

So Trump's weeklong truce only lasted three nights!

After that Trump said Putin had kept his word, because the pause was only meant to last from Sunday to Sunday!!

The US must increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin, as he still refuses to come to the negotiating table. In particular, Ukraine needs to be supplied with Tomahawk cruise missiles, according to US Senator Lindsey Graham on Twitter (X)

''After this massive attack last night, I would urge President Trump to start a process to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, which would be a game-changer militarily. In the coming days and weeks, we must apply more pressure to Putin," Graham stressed.

He added that any negotiations in which aggression is excessively rewarded "will set in motion catastrophes all over the world."
