A dramatic breakthrough has emerged in the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie after authorities detained an individual for questioning — just hours after the FBI released chilling footage of a masked, armed figure at her home.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed deputies stopped and detained a subject during a traffic stop south of Tucson. The individual is now being questioned in connection with the case.

“Additional information will be released as it becomes available,” Public Information Officer Angelica Carrillo told Express US.

The detention comes after FBI Director Kash Patel released newly recovered surveillance footage showing a masked person approaching Nancy’s front door and allegedly tampering with her doorbell camera in the early hours of February 1 — the morning she vanished.

The footage shows an individual wearing a mask, gloves, jacket, pants and sneakers, carrying a backpack and what appears to be a holstered handgun.

Authorities say at 1:47 a.m. MST Nancy’s doorbell camera disconnected. At 2:12 a.m., it detected a person. Until this week, investigators believed the footage was unrecoverable. Patel said it was extracted from “residual data located in backend systems” after collaboration with private-sector partners.

There is currently no confirmation that the detained individual is the same person seen in the video.

Meanwhile, the case has taken another twist. TMZ reported activity in the Bitcoin wallet used in ransom demands sent to media outlets in Tucson. The notes demanded millions in cryptocurrency and set two deadlines — both of which have now passed.

Nancy’s daughter, Savannah Guthrie, has publicly pleaded for help, sharing the footage online and writing: “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”

Nancy was last seen January 31 after dinner with family.

The investigation remains active.
