Featured Replies

Friends calling me about their dog. Symptoms:

last night:

vomiting green bile

diarrhaea

hot, dry nose

Took him to the vet this morn who gave two shots ? and anti-diarrhaea and antibiotics

Tonight, dog is

shuddering

no vomiting

occasional watery diarrhaea

white anemic eyelids

taking some water, but no food

no extended stomach

running away and hiding

Canadian vet said it's a gastrointestinal prob. I say it's poisoning -- snail bait, rat posoin...

Any suggestions, pet Docs?

Oh gosh, two of my dogs had the same symptoms. One survived. People told me these are the symptoms of battery acid poisoning, a method used by burglars to get dogs out of their way before starting the action...

I am thinking about,

1) GI problem such as enteritis and bacterial gastritis.

2) Coccidiosis or giardiasis.

3) Blood parasites as E.canis

4) Kidney disease.

What I will do for rule out?

1) Blood collection for hematology and blood chemistry.

2) Check the dog's stool via microscope.

ps. You had better give me more information for instance, how old is the dog, male or female..etc

Hope the dog gets well soon :o

Thanks, Doc.

His parents just told me he ate a whole bag of dental bones, but that was a week ago, and he's had normal bowel and bladder, and normal eating since then.

He's male, about 8 yrs old. On a restricted diet (no meat products) and loves vegetables -- lettuce, bell peppers, tomatoes.

I think the vet took blood samples.

Apparently, he's a bit better today, not active but alert.

Sutnyod, the most-used poison for dogs when I was in Thailand was rat poison in some raw meat.

What's his levels of SGPT, SGOT,BUN and creatine?

Sorry, don't know, but the owners finally took him to the vet for a saline drip. The boy has been hiding from them, and you know what that mean.s

Ohhh ..

sounds bad :o

I consulted this issue with my vet friends

They agree with my opinion here.

Dr. A ,he got Ph.D(vet) in Japan.

And Dr.B,she got Ph.D(vet) in Germany.

They just called me. He was at the vet all day on a drip. They brought him home and he passed. Only 4 years old, not 8. They will bury him tonight.

Hi, Draggons. In Vancouver now.

Sorry to hear about your pooches. Give the details and BambinA and the Dog Carers here will help.

As BambinA noted before, give as many specifics as possible.

Vomiting and colour, diarrhaea -- any blood in either, etc.

My dogs got sick occasionally, vomitting, hot nose, but I put it down to something they ate when we went to the beach.

Cheers JG, thought it might have been a local thing. Both fine now, must have been somthing they ate.

Golden's started catching ting toks and often plays with frogs, could have been that.
