200,000 Rally In Munich Calling For Iran Regime Change

An estimated 200,000 demonstrators gathered in Munich on Saturday demanding regime change in Iran, staging one of the largest overseas protests against Tehran’s government in recent years.

The rally took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, where world leaders were meeting to discuss global security. Protesters answered a call from Iran’s exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi for increased international pressure on Tehran amid ongoing unrest inside the country.

Crowds filled central Munich waving green-white-and-red flags bearing the lion and sun emblem used before Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. Demonstrators chanted “Change, change, regime change,” carried placards featuring Pahlavi’s image, and called for greater Western support for anti-government protesters.

Addressing the conference, Pahlavi warned that further bloodshed could follow if democratic nations failed to act. “Will the world stand with the people of Iran?” he asked, arguing that the survival of the current leadership would embolden authoritarian governments elsewhere.

Pahlavi praised the United States for its stated support of Iranian protesters and urged President Donald Trump to follow through on promises of assistance. He also welcomed Washington’s announcement that a second US aircraft carrier group would be deployed to the region as tensions with Tehran continue.

Some demonstrators wore red “Make Iran Great Again” caps — echoing Trump’s “MAGA” slogan — while others described travelling from across Europe to amplify voices inside Iran amid reported internet restrictions and repression.

Protests within Iran began in late December over worsening economic conditions and the collapse of the national currency, the rial, before expanding into broader anti-government demonstrations. Eyewitnesses and activist groups report thousands killed in the ensuing crackdown, though precise figures remain disputed. Iranian authorities have not released official casualty data and have accused opposition groups of politicising death toll estimates.

Key Takeaways

  1. Mass Overseas Mobilisation – Around 200,000 rallied in Munich demanding regime change in Iran.

  2. Pahlavi’s International Push – The exiled crown prince urged democracies to increase pressure on Tehran.

  3. Casualty Figures Disputed – Death toll estimates from Iran’s crackdown vary widely, with no official numbers released.
