Donald Trump Says No Final Call on Iran as Nuclear Talks Stall

Trump not happy.jpg

President Donald Trump said Friday he has not made a final decision on next steps in his escalating pressure campaign against Iran, but made clear he is “not happy” with the current state of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Speaking to reporters as he departed the White House for Texas, Trump said Iran “cannot have nuclear weapons” and expressed frustration with the pace and substance of talks. “We haven’t made a final decision,” he said. “We’re not thrilled with the way they’re negotiating. So, we’ll see how it all works.”

Military Buildup as Diplomatic Window Narrows

Trump’s remarks come amid a significant U.S. military buildup in the region, fueling speculation that strikes could be under consideration if diplomacy fails.

Asked whether potential U.S. strikes could spark a prolonged Middle East conflict, Trump acknowledged the risks. “There’s always a risk,” he said. Despite the show of force, he reiterated that he prefers a diplomatic solution, adding that while the U.S. has the world’s strongest military, “I’d love not to use it, but sometimes you have to.”

Regime Change Talk — But No Clear Strategy

Trump also floated the possibility of regime change in Tehran, though he conceded no one had told him military action would immediately achieve that outcome. “You don’t know. I mean, nobody knows. There might be and there might not be,” he said.

The president has yet to clearly outline what a strike would aim to accomplish beyond preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Rubio to Visit Israel as Tensions Rise

Earlier Friday, it was announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Israel on Monday and Tuesday, with Iran expected to top the agenda.

The trip was revealed just hours after the U.S. Embassy in Israel ordered nonessential personnel and family members to depart, underscoring the growing tension in the region.

JD Vance: ‘No Chance’ of Prolonged War

Vice President JD Vance, speaking aboard Air Force Two in an interview with The Washington Post, sought to downplay fears of a drawn-out war.

“The idea that we’re going to be in a Middle Eastern war for years with no end in sight — there is no chance that will happen,” Vance said, while acknowledging he does not know what final decision Trump will make.

Vance described himself as a “skeptic of foreign military interventions” but said both he and the president prefer diplomacy, depending on how Iran responds.

Geneva Talks End Without Breakthrough

Indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran in Geneva concluded Thursday without a resolution. Meetings included U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi, who has been involved in facilitating discussions.

With negotiations stalled and military options still on the table, the administration appears to be balancing diplomatic outreach with a readiness to escalate — while leaving the final decision squarely in Trump’s hands.
