Yes, that's why I was asking in case the IO (new guy) was just in a bad mood, although someone said on another thread they've been told to be stricter

Jomtien require bank letter and statement same day for marriage extension too..have done for years,this Tuesday they told me they are being stricter this year on orders from head office..they told my wife to check the line app before coming back to the office to get final stamp in the passport as there may well be a backlog or further documentation required

we wait and see.

FWIW, I did my retirement extension at Jomtien 11 February with bank letter from the day before, no problem then.

I don't know if this qualifies as recent, since these policy changes often happen overnite, as a reaction to outside events.

But you can get the letter and still be at Immigration around 09:00 or just after.

Edit: I wouldn't go much earlier anyway due to the "eager beavers" turning up super early. Better have those gone before you arrive.

Not ideal, but doable. Now let's hear some reports from the last few days before getting all upset. It may blow over and settle down again...

I've never done same day at Jomtien. Day before and coming in next day late in the afternoon. One time got the letter Friday to come in Monday. Of course policies can change. I wonder if there were circumstances in this case like a lot of activity and being quite close to the 800K mark.

What I would be particularly interested in knowing is whether the "wondrous" EEC Visa, as described in the link below, has, in recent times, led to drastic overcrowding and resultant increased waiting times for annual retirement and marriage extensions at Jomtien, in the same way it has done at neighbouring Rayong (which is my office).

Seems rather pedantic of Jomtien Immigration and this more especially so if the 800,000 is in a deposit account since any withdrawl would have to show in the book ( unlike a savings account )

Just to add, because I know many get the letter the day before, but updates the bank book on the same day.

I have never done this book update on day of application, and never been asked to do so at Jomtien.

I hope it stays that way, and the OPs incidence is just temporary noise by a new officer.

That same text had been there for many years and in reality next day has always been OK and no need to show up at immigration in the morning either.

I am not convinced yet that there has been any change in enforcement policy.

Wait for more reports.

Interesting, the officer a few days ago said i need to go to the ATM and update the book to today, no need for new letter or copy, of course the update book machine didn't update after a 500 baht withdrawal, i tried two different branches so had to wait until the branch opened at 9.30.

If i could get the passbook to update the day before maybe i could update again the morning of immigration

Does anyone know if 1 year printed bank statement works since at least with Bangkok Bank it will be emailed quickly. Then the Bank Letter from day before at Jomtien?

In Ratchaburi the bank letter has always been required to be dated the same day.

As I mentioned in my first post, my experience is from 11 February and may already be old news if there indeed is a policy change and not just the whim of a new employee having read the fine print in the manual.

But I have never needed to update the book on the same day as the letter. But if you have to have the letter dated the same day as your application, the book must show the same date I guess.

I use BBL and they can update the book without a transaction which is good when you use a fixed deposit account, since it makes the book messy with many transactions.

FWIW I have never needed to show a statement of my savings account or the book for that account either (to show spending for living expenses), the bank letter and copy of the fixed deposit account with the 800K has always been enough until now.

I said to the IO, this is a change from last year? he said yes

First bit NO.

Second bit that's fine for FD accounts.

Many use saving account and at some offices a month without activity can trigger required 12 month bank statement

Not Jomtien, however at CW I previously used two accounts.

FD + sayings a/c..

I updated both on day of application.

Did that by making deposit in both accounts.

Minimum for FD account is 1k at kasikorn..

Anyway all offices have their own requirements

I've always been advised to do a transaction on the day of getting my letter & statement.

As I use a Fixed Deposit account for my extensions I transfer 10K from my day-2-day BBL account (Can't do any less using the mobile app) before going in to get the letter, touch wood haven't had a problem doing that yet but I do pay an agent 8K thb to do the paperwor for me so maybe that helps.

As I pointed out above.

For FD account most banks require min 1000/baht.

That had been my M.O at CW for years.

Yes I always do a transaction same day as the letter but also next day application has always been ok.

99% of the time, no. It needs to come from the bank itself, and likely have some type of stamp or something on it to show that it came directly from the bank. Else anyone could very easily make a bank statement using online software.

Always done it the same day, letter and bank statement plus update book, first thing, as soon as bank opens.

The linked Pattaya City Checklist has the following:

Using 800k+ in a Thai bank account:

"Original - Bank Letter attesting to Name and Account Number for the Bank Account – dated on the day of application or, if applying early in the morning, the previous day."

Using 65k+ monthly transfers:

"Original - Two Bank Letters - one showing transfers into the account from source(s) outside of Thailand for the 12 months preceding the application date showing at least 65,000 baht in each month and the other verifying the account in your name only and balance. (**) The letter verifying the account must be date on the date of application or the day before if your visit is to Immigration before the banks open."

They do keep the checklists updated for any policy changes at Jomtien Immigration based on reports from their members and others. Usually if anyone experiences an Immigration Officer wanting more, it mostly likely is at that Officer's whim.

For people with 800,000 baht in a fixed-term deposit account that requires an update on the day of the annual extension application: Make a 1,000-baht deposit a few days before submitting your application, set for one year, and do this again three days later. This will automatically update your account twice a year through interest payments. Submit your application for an annual extension at the Immigration Office on one of those two days (if one falls on a weekend, you still have the second day to choose from). If you pick up the bank letter in the morning, your bank book will be updated and you’ll have a transaction recorded on the same day.

I did ours last week:- bank letter from day before ok, bank book updated same day ok BUT wanted sight of and photocopy of entire previous years' entries.

Rejected all double-sided photocopies: single side only!

Also rejected copy of our authenticated marriage certificate: wanted sight of the original, even though they have seen in every year for the last 20 odd years! Had to go home and get it, returned without wifey: rejected, she must be there too, for a photo, even though she was there earlier. 56km wasted journeys!

But all very courteous and polite.
