Changi Named World’s Best Airport as Suvarnabhumi Rises

Featured Replies

Singapore Changi Airport has been named the world’s best airport for 2026 by Skytrax, extending its long-running dominance, while Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport climbed to 36th place in the latest global rankings. The annual list highlights continued strong performance by leading Asian hubs and steady improvement in Thailand’s main international gateway.

The rankings are based on passenger surveys conducted worldwide between 2025 and 2026, assessing service quality and overall airport experience. Changi retained the top spot, followed by Incheon International Airport and Tokyo Haneda Airport. Other airports in the top 10 include Hong Kong International Airport and Narita International Airport.

Suvarnabhumi Airport improved three places from 39th in 2025 to 36th this year, reflecting gradual gains in passenger satisfaction. Across Southeast Asia, Changi remains the region’s top performer, maintaining its reputation for high service standards and efficiency.

Other regional airports in the top 100 include Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 22nd, Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 60th, Noi Bai International Airport at 71st and Da Nang International Airport at 75th. The results underline the competitive landscape among major aviation hubs in Asia, particularly in Southeast Asia where passenger traffic continues to grow.

The rankings reinforce Singapore’s position as a global leader in aviation standards, while indicating that Bangkok’s main airport is making incremental progress. Improvements in passenger experience at Suvarnabhumi suggest ongoing efforts to enhance services amid increasing regional competition.

Khaosod reported that airports across the region are expected to continue investing in infrastructure, technology and customer service to boost their standings in future surveys. With passenger expectations rising, maintaining high service quality will remain a key factor in determining global rankings.

I’ve always found Changi incredibly easy to navigate even when it’s busy, the layout, signage, and overall flow just make sense. It’s not surprising it topped the Skytrax rankings again this year, given how consistently it invests in upgrades and passenger experience.

Suvarnabhumi, on the other hand, started out as a solid modern airport, but the passenger load today is far beyond what it was originally designed for. The airport has been operating over capacity for years, and you can really feel it during peak times. The expansion projects underway should help, but right now the congestion is hard to ignore.

Not just that. Changi has a garden to walk in nature, a smoking deck outdoors, a movie theatre, free massage chairs, comfortable quiet places to sleep. You won't see any of that at BKK. Changi has quick formalities, boom-boom, you're in or out.

Was through there a few days ago.

Very nice airport with loads of high end shopping outlets, loads of smoking areas and a modern feel.

Downside, arrest and fines if you are caught vaping, in country or transiting. Vapes have to be disposed of in dedicated vape bins before going through security for your connection, they are yellow bins positioned outside smoking areas with warnings printed on them.

I do not know how strictly this is enforced, but while having a smoke i did overhear a guy warning others with vapes on view that it is illegal and he personally was arrested and fined $700 after being caught, may have been a repeat offender though.

No tobacco products are available in the duty free shops, and according to the law, even tobacco products purchased elsewhere need to be declared so they can be taxed.

Transiting from terminal one to terminal three, i didn't come across any travelators either, it was all carpeted.

Changi is a great airport and deserves top spot.

Personally, I think Suvarnabhumi is getting worse rather than better. It is easy to navigate and normally efficient to go through security and whatever but feels too busy. Nowhere quiet to have a slow meal or drink while waiting for your flight. The restaurants all feel like they want you in and out now and didn’t get that impression years ago.

Tomorrow AAT will publish another ranking report naming Swampy as #1 !

Oh cool, an airport topic.

I love Changi myself. Clean, organized, stuff to do, fairly priced. Swampy is, as others have pointed out, waaay to crowded.

Inchoen is my favorite because of food and facilties. Istabul is nice too but stupidly expensive.

Wasn't impressed with either of them last time I travelled! Bangkok far too crowded, and so was Changi, too much walking about too. There was renovation going on at Changi though.

Wow, Canada made top 10. Unbelievable
