What is an Australian Tourist Visa?

Featured Replies

The Australian Tourist Visa (officially the Visitor Visa – Subclass 600) allows foreign nationals to visit Australia for tourism, family visits, or short recreational purposes. It typically permits stays of 3, 6, or 12 months, depending on the visa conditions.

Nice, Just do not take anything edible in your luggage as Aussie customs are obsessed and very picky with any kind of food items, even if sealed or canned. Same for smokers. Check closely the maximum tolerated to bring as cigarettes cost a fortune in Australia unlike many european countries.

Correct. There are many other visas that allow to people to visit. Some can have a working holiday subject to certain conditions. Many Aussie farmers rely on these workers. COVID was a disaster for many when overseas workers were not allowed in.

We gave up on visiting Australia this year because the visa application is too taxing and takes too long (for my Thai wife). Same with the NZ version. It's a pity it's that way. Anyway, I guess they have their reasons. But I don't care. Plenty of other places to go.

Are Thai chicks welcome to use this visa?

My friend, then wife has been using the 600 visa for over 10 years, started with a 3 month visa and now a multi entry 3 year visa. Only allowed 3 month stay at a time and cannot work while there.

Relatively simple through an ImmiAccount but a lot of paper work on her and family history for the first time. After that just post the same information.

Most important for the first entry is how she will be supported (money) and her need to return to Thailand, family, work, real estate etc. (do not want those nasty bar girls there that might want to help lonely Australians).

A letter from a friend/family in Oz inviting her to visit will help.

I remember 25 years ago on a night shift at my place of employment, I was bored and looked up the credit scoring requirements to be elligible for an Australian work permit (a kind of online calculator of your experience vs what they needed). So I put in all of my age, professional experience, etc., and it kicked me out - not elligible. So I lowered my age, changed my profession, to lawyer then doctor, said I was single - basically trying to figure out what they wanted. Everything I tried came back with a low score - too low. So then I changed my gender and age. I said I was a 25 year old, white single female from central Europe. A hairdresser with a grade 12 education. BINGO! Passed with a high score!

The main problem is that Thais have a bad reputation with Oz officialdom - for overstay and for working illegally. They assume that rules don't apply to them.

Sound familiar?

A lot of that going around right here in TH. Can't meet the financials, use an agent.

Seems a common thread, that when people abuse the system, they enforce the system. Go figure.

Oh well, I understand.

Same old discrimination story.

It's sexism, I see the millions of male Indians arriving. Australia is not allowing my young, beautiful Thai girlfriend. 😡

I've always taken foodstuffs but the key is to declare it. You're then routed off for inspection which cuts the queueing time in half, and takes only seconds to show a bar of chocolate or bag of crisps which it's OK to bring in, and you're out the other side quicker than the regular arrivals.

If you are serious - they'll let her in if you build a bit of history with her. Download line chat, photos with you and her and parents, etc. Show you support her in Australia and show she has work to get back to in Thailand and should be no worries. I have done it numerous times.

I have been a public servant for a long time and know to make it easy for them to tick the boxes.

Actually see someone said similar ...
