Eight Pathum Thani Officers Removed Amid Gold Extortion Accusation

Eight police officers in Pathum Thani have been removed from duty following allegations that they extorted a gold necklace from a couple who run a snooker club. The woman at the centre of the complaint said several men entered her home without permission, identified themselves as police, and searched the property. She claimed they found no illegal items but later accused her of illegal lending and warned that her assets could be seized. After the couple were taken to a police station, she alleged officers demanded cash in exchange for avoiding prosecution. Unable to raise the money in time, she said she handed over a gold necklace worth nearly 150,000 baht because she was worried about her children being left alone at home.
