Trump’s Explosive Threats Shock Washington

A political firestorm erupted Sunday after Chris Murphy accused Donald Trump of openly threatening “mass war crimes” against Iran.

The president stunned critics with a Truth Social post declaring “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day” in Iran, warning Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face devastating consequences. “There will be nothing like it!!!” he wrote, alongside a profanity-laced ultimatum.

‘Clear War Crime’ Warning From Democrats

Murphy led the charge, warning that targeting bridges and power plants would inevitably kill civilians.

“He isn’t even pretending to choose military targets,” he said, accusing Trump of being willing to trigger mass casualties to create national panic. Murphy added that even limited strikes on such infrastructure could kill thousands of innocent Iranians.

Civilian Toll Mounts As War Intensifies

The row comes against the backdrop of a rapidly escalating conflict. Since U.S. and Israeli strikes began on February 28, more than 1,600 civilians — including at least 244 children — have reportedly been killed, according to activist groups.

Murphy dismissed Trump’s strategy as both immoral and ineffective. “The Strait was open before Trump started bombing Iran,” he argued. “This is pure insanity. It won’t work. It will just permanently stain America.”

Top Democrats Unleash Fury

Senior Democrats piled on with blistering attacks.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer accused Trump of “ranting like an unhinged madman” on Easter Sunday, warning he was “threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called the rhetoric “disgusting and unhinged,” while Bernie Sanders branded the president “a dangerous and mentally unbalanced individual.”

Calls For Congress To Step In

The backlash is now turning into demands for action. Murphy and others are urging Congress to return immediately to rein in the president’s war powers before the crisis spirals further.

With oil prices surging and the Strait of Hormuz — a chokepoint for global energy — under pressure, fears are growing that the confrontation could ignite a far wider regional war.

The White House has not walked back the president’s remarks.
