Has the Songkran exodus from Bangkok already begun - a week early??

Featured Replies

I live near central Bangkok and I noticed how quiet the roads were all this long weekend (so 4-6 April). At lunchtime today (Monday holiday) the Fortune Town - Lotus's carpark was empty on a floor that should have been packed with cars/customers.

Several of my Thai neighbours seem to be away too.

So looking at the calendar, this year, if you began a holiday last Saturday the 4th, you could stay away though the next weekend and then Songkran that immediately follows it. In other words, a 12 day holiday, taking only 4 days off work.

It just seems odd that so many people would go out of town for just a 3 day long weekend - and just days before Songkran. I guess we'll have a better idea if it gets busy again tomorrow - or not.

Diesel and Kerosene prices affects travelling by land and air dramatically and spending in general. So maybe only that changed...
