Impeachment Move Targets Iran War Rhetoric

A senior Democrat has moved to impeach Donald Trump, accusing him of waging an “illegal war” and making threats that endanger global security.

John Larson confirmed he has filed articles of impeachment, citing Trump’s warning that a “whole civilisation” could be wiped out if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened.

Larson said the president had “blown past every requirement to be removed from office,” pointing to escalating rhetoric and the human and economic cost of the Iran conflict.

Ceasefire Pause Fails To Calm Critics

The move comes despite Trump agreeing to a two-week pause in strikes after diplomatic pressure, including intervention from Pakistan.

The White House has framed the pause as a strategic success, but critics say it does little to address deeper concerns over presidential conduct and decision-making.

Larson warned the situation is “getting worse,” accusing Trump of becoming “more unstable by the day.”

Democrats Push 25th Amendment Option

Pressure is also mounting beyond impeachment.

Around 70 Democrats — including Nancy Pelosi and Chris Murphy — have called on the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, which would transfer power to the vice president if the president is deemed unfit to serve.

The push reflects growing alarm within parts of the party over Trump’s language and conduct during the crisis.

Allies Split As Backlash Spreads

Cracks are also emerging among Trump’s traditional support base.

Prominent backers including Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly have criticised the president’s threats to target Iranian infrastructure, calling the rhetoric excessive.

Others, however, have defended the approach.

Republican Mike Lawler insisted Trump was focused on strategic targets, not civilians, arguing the president was pursuing “decisive action” against Iran’s capabilities.

White House Stands Firm

The administration continues to back the military campaign, maintaining its objective is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Larson, however, says the issue goes far beyond policy.

He argues Trump’s statements — including warnings of “living in hell” — signal an inability to carry out the duties of office.

Constitutional Clash Looms

With Republicans controlling Congress, the impeachment effort faces steep odds.

But the political stakes are rising fast.

Larson is urging Cabinet members to “put patriotism over politics” and act immediately, warning that the president’s conduct is putting both national security and the economy at risk.

In Washington, the battle over Trump’s war powers is now turning into a full-blown constitutional showdown.
