Entering Thailand What do I need

Featured Replies

In july i will be coming to thailand on free entry stamp, currently 60dd, plus i will apply for 30 dd extension.

(My last time in thailand was 18 months ago.

I dont plan border run to stay longer in thailand.

for future years, once a year, my plan is to visit thailand in the same way, if it will still be available: 60dd+30dd ext).

-is there any plan to reduce the free entry stamp to 30dd? By july..

-is there any online formalities i must carry out before i arrive?

-what documents should i show at arrival at immigration?

Thnx x yr support

There is the facility to edit or delete whatever you type incorrectly or stupidly.

How anyone of a right mind can type a heading about FACEBOOK followed by a post about your returning to Thailand in July.

It puzzles me, and probably others unless your initials are GG! 555

Hi rimmer (admi)

Thanx x changing the heading to my post.

I was drinking too much milk and got a mishap.

Luckily some beer drinking samaritan noticed the mishap.

Hopefully some milk-drinker will reply to the rectified post with some proper answers

Thnx again rimmer (admi)

Now that the milk and beer is all drank, if the OP is only planning on ONE visa-exempt entry + internal extension each year, that should not raise any issues on this and subsequent annual visits.

There is no firm evidence of visa exempt entry allowance being reduced beyond it being discussed between government departments, various elements of the Thai private sector and representatives of the hospitality business, etc. The new government has other, more important business right now.

Make sure to submit the digital entry card at https://tdac.immigration.go.th/arrival-card/#/home in a timely manner before travel.

Since possession of a return or onward ticket will probably be a requirement of the airline you will be traveling to Thailand on, you should be OK if asked for the same by Thai immigration on arrival. I doubt they will ask for proof of funds but best to have proof available, just in case.

Flight out:

Because my idea is to extend, (i wanna do 90 dd, once a year, july to october) at departure (kti) and arrival (bkk) can i show a flight dated 90 dd later? Mmmmhhh....

Or the flight out to show at immigration, you suggest it to be within the initial "60dd free entry stamp"? Implying i d have to get one via "onwardticket" and only book the real exit when i will know my exit day.

Will proof of accommodation also be required? How long for? 1 week enough?

Cash, obviously, i will have cash

Thnx x the tdac link

Flight out: Departure from KTI, only the airline is interested in you having a return ticket. Immigration won't need to see it.

Arrival at BKK. Since you qualify for a 30-day extension on top of the initial 60-day, showing proof of return flight 90-days hence shouldn't be a problem. However, keep in mind IO's have total discretion and some may question you on this. You have the answers. You can always book a disposable "onwardticket" and show the IO that to be on the safe side. It's cheap insurance against possible hassle.

Proof of accommodation can be as little as your first night. You're a tourist, you'll be moving around. That's what tourists do.

Thank u for your exhaustive reply

On a purely academic level: what if the exit (flight out) was overland.

Bus from chiang kong to huai xay, x instance

Sorry, no idea. Since they need proof of return/onward flight booking for air travel, the same would be needed for exit overland. Whether such a booking confirmation is acceptable, or even exists, needs clarification.

Hopefully, one of the forum's experts will be able to answer about the intricacies of land border crossings and what's acceptable for proof of a confirmed overland visa exempt departure.

No, it seems to be a very important thing for the government as the reduction of the visa waiver has been discussed for a year now and in earnest for the last couple of months. They need to stop rehashing the same tired old articles and make a decision. Do it now, even if the change doesn't take effect for another 3 or 6 months.

Being in possession of an onward ticket is an absolute requirement for visa free entry and airlines are not supposed to issue a boarding pass without being sure the traveler meets this requirement.

Immigration is increasingly asking for proof of onward travel (as they should) but most of the work is done by the airlines when you check-in. When I fly to countries like Cambodia and Myanmar from Thailand, airline check-in rigorously checks I have an onward ticket, because those countries require it...it's no different if you're flying to Thailand. No need for a ticket out if you have a visa, unless it's a tourist visa but then it becomes discretionary as there are different interpretations when it comes to whether a tourist visa holder needs an onward or round-trip ticket. No visa or visa on arrival = outbound ticket is an absolute must.

Proof of funds is less likely to be requested...it's normally only done if you have been abusing visa free or have excessive stays on tourist visas and are attempting to do a border run. First time visitors and those who are genuine tourists who come for a few days or weeks then leave are unlikely to have proof of funds asked for at the border.

It's best to have a flight ticket. Airlines are unlikely to accept proof of travel by bus. Some might, but you'll probably find yourself in a bit of a pickle at check-in if you present yourself with no visa and no onward plane ticket.

At regional airports (such as when flying to Thailand from Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos etc), you might get away with a verbal explanation confirming how you will continue your travels...the key word is "might" as it's totally discretionary, but when flying out of Europe/UK, Australia/New Zealand or the USA/Canada, I doubt they'll be anything but strict.
