Air pollution in Metro Manila has reached hazardous levels following a fire at a sanitary landfill in Navotas City, leading to widespread smog across various parts of the National Capital Region (NCR). The Office of Civil Defense has issued a warning, indicating that the air quality ranges from “unhealthy” to “very unhealthy,” posing significant health risks, particularly to sensitive groups.

The advisory urges the public, especially children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions, to stay indoors and avoid prolonged exposure to the polluted air. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recommends wearing N95 masks and keeping windows closed if outdoor activities are necessary.

Authorities advise vigilance for symptoms such as coughing and difficulty breathing. Immediate medical consultation is recommended if symptoms occur.
