Vietnam is intensifying efforts to create a self-reliant semiconductor industry, aiming to control the entire value chain from research to testing. This strategic move is designed to capitalize on the global shift in supply chains, with a focus on specialized chips and developing science-technology human resources. The country has already attracted over 170 foreign-invested projects in the semiconductor sector, employing around 7,000 engineers in chip design alone.

Vietnam's push involves institutional reforms and workforce development. More than 50 foreign firms and approximately 10 domestic companies are currently operating in the chip design field. Progress is evident in the initiatives by major corporations such as the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, which is building the country’s first semiconductor fabrication plant at the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in Hanoi. This facility, covering 27 hectares, will support industries like aerospace, telecommunications, IoT, automotive manufacturing, medical devices, and automation.

FPT Group is also contributing by launching an advanced chip packaging and testing plant. This development aims to enhance value chain connectivity in Vietnam, advancing the nation’s goal of mastering core technologies. Such industry moves reflect concrete steps taken by businesses to implement government policies effectively.
